Hi: I have Polk rti8's, cherry. They are MUCH darker than the Acoustic Audio cherry Subs. AA's look good but much lighter finish.

Would you recommend getting a black AA Sub then?

Black always "matches" but i don't think a "two tone" cherry would look bad.

Yeah I know that I wouldn't mind it, but the wife is the one who wanted the cherry to match. I am not complaining I just want the speakers to sound good. I wish I could see a side by side comparison of the color. Just to see how different they actually are.

I will probably buy black sub with cherry speakers.

Hard to go wrong with Black. Good Luck: Also for "Big Daddy": I have both a HD-Sub12 & Hd-SUB15. As noted somewhere in this thread the "auto on" feature doesn't really let you know if the sub is active or not since the power light remains red all the time. My hd-12 has a 3 position switch with markings for only "on" and "auto on" so i don't know whats that all about?? I do know the sub is active with a signal. As for the hd-15 the auto on worked for a few minutes, quit then on and off etc. The sub works fine with the switch in the on position. Even with a strong signal no go - so the sub must be left in the on position to work. Wasn't there a problem with this, and any solution? Thanks for any info. Its Appreciated

Are both of your subs black? Do you use them in the same room? What other speakers do you have?

I leave mine on AUTO ON most of the time and it works without a problem. When I am away for a few days, I turn it off. I don't believe that the amplifier goes into idle mode when it is set on AUTO ON as it get relatively hot.

Both subs are cherry. Auto on works fine on the hd-12 but the auto on feature does not work on the hd-15 (worked for the first hour then quit) so i just put it in the on position and it works fine. I shut it off after use. Other than that these are excellent for the price.

ohhh god! i just was reading you guys, ...why? just when I made my final decision to buy the A2-300, now looks like PA-120 is another tempting option because cost less than A2-300 and gives me the same level of quality and performance..what i gonna do know? buy the PA-12 to save money for some christmas blu ray movies or get just the A2-300?

BIC america F12 is another good option, cost same price as the A2-300 and the design is much better than the A2-300 .

Please guys i need your advice to make my best decision

I think the ED sub will probably be a better sub then both the AA and PA sub. I've never heard the ED but have heard both the PA and AA.There's gonna be quality issues with all brands of that I have no doubt but with ED and PA you'll get way better customer service! AA customer service is next to nothing. I've written a PM to the AA rep that signed up on here to promote their "Christmas Special" but that's all they did. I know I'm not the only one with issues with them. They were probably hit with quite a few PM's and decided to "high tail it" off this forum. Bottom line is you are taking a chance with the AA sub and you're not with the PA or ED sub. If you get a bad one from AA then you're stuck with shipping both ways back for a new one or you're just "stuck" with a bad sub...like I was...oh yeah if you don't send in the warranty card within 10 days...guess what....no warranty....EVER.

Hey Noel198 -- Pics in my Gallery & Sig. below of the PA-120, I love it. Its' a bit below the eD Subs, yes, but for $229 + $29/Freight, it's a well-made/solid & Gorgeous looking, & performs extremely well. Good luck in whichever one you go with.

If a receiver does not have a subwoofer output, your only other option is to connect the subwoofer to the front speaker outputs on the receiver with speaker wires. You must set the front speakers to LARGE and the subwoofer to NO. As far as the front speakers are concerned, you can connect them to the subwoofer's speaker outputs. Since, the front speakers are set to large, you have to use the crossover dial on the back of the sub to control the crossover frequency. A frequency of 80Hz is a good option.

In its simplest explanation, a Pass Through receiver sends the video and audio from an HDMI source directly to the TV without any sort of processing. Audio is NOT processed by the receiver so if you want surround sound, you will have to connect the source to the receiver with a separate digital coax or optical cable.

A Repeater receiver can pass through the HDMI signal to the TV as well as processing the audio to be sent to the speakers. A separate coax or optical cable is not required. To summarize, a repeater receiver has the following features:
  1. Video and audio from the sources are passed through from the receiver to the TV.
  2. Audio is extracted and processed for reproduction over the speakers.
  3. A repeater receiver may also upscale the video.
As an example:
Onkyo 506: HDMI Pass-through (no modification or interpretation of the HDMI signal)
Onkyo 507: HDMI Repeater: Decodes audio, but no video upconversion or on-screen display
Onkyo 606: HDMI Repeater: Decodes audio, upconverts analog video

Great info...thanks again.

I do have a sw out (Sony 10") which is on it's frequency control is to the highest level 200hz. And I changed the cr to 120hz. My receiver appears to be a repeater since it process the audio though hdmi only. Also main speakers are set to small. I could try them at large (5.25' woofers and only 2 way speakers) setting to see if the sound changes.

I can't set the cr on anything but sw...receiver is a lower end model, but it works

So my HD-SUB10 finally arrived today. I was pretty excited about getting this thing so it was a long 7 days waiting for it. Got it all hooked up and was just gonna let it run for a break-in period. I set the sub level pretty low as to not stress it right away, and not even 15 min. into running it, it chuffed for a few seconds then went dead. I powered it off and unplugged it for a few mins., and after powering it on again it chuffs and then nothing. I'm gonna let it sit for a while unplugged and try again later, but I fear it's a bad amp.

Sorry to hear that. It appears that many amps are going bad these days. I hear some people have had problems with ED amps. Was it AV123 that had the same problem acouple of years ago? Luckily my amp is in good shape even though I have been cranking the music too high. Contact the company and get a replacement.

Thanks, BD. Yeah, it was AV123, and the issue continued up until June of this year, I believe, when they started shipping new amps. It was the MFW-15 model. I actually have one of those with the newer amp that I picked up in September, but I'm running it passive. That thing rocks!

Anyway, I'll get in touch with AA for a replacement. If they can at least send out a replacement amp I'll be happy. I'll post back when I have more info on that.

Ya know, I have a 7 channel amp sitting up in my loft that isn't being used. I've been debating moving it into the office, so then I can always go passive with the HD-SUB10 if I can't get a replacement. But geez, a 70 lb. amp for my office is hugely overkill.

That is a good way to piss off the big bad boss (BBB).
