The Negan episode was definitely the best one out of all the shit episodes weve had recently. The one with the vicar and the dude with no arm was the worst one yet. But not surprising as they are the two worst characters in the shows history

The first with Maggie and last with Negan were really the only two that progressed the story though, but even they could've probably been half the length... but let's be honest, we didn't get these bonus episodes to make it good, they just did it to make up for the delayed schedule and ending the show earlier than they planned. How the hell can Carol and Daryl get their own spin off show?
What's it going to consist of? Them both just wandering around in the woods, Daryl not saying much other than occasionally yelling 'Dog!' and Carol being schizo and doing stupid things? |

Here's Negan like all other episodes that feature Jeffrey Dean Morgan prove that he can definitely carry the series without many of the other main leads (Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, and Lauren Cohan during her hiatus).
We've spent probably the last five years with Negan ever since his blood-soaked debut in the Season 6 finale. And while all we knew of him to be this leather jacket wearing, wise-cracking, foul-mouthed monologuing, barbed wire baseball bat (affectionately called Lucille) wielding, cultist psychopath leader who advocates against raping of women, there wasn't much backstory character depth behind Negan. Little by little, tidbits of his past would be given in an attempt to develop him into a fully realized human character and not a one dimensional comic book villain. However, it wasn't until the Whisperer War comic book storyline that Robert Kirkman decided to write a 16-part miniseries titled "Here's Negan," that gave readers a look into his past before the apocalypse. My main complaint that can be applied to both the comic and its television adaptation is that as soon as the story began to get rolling, it quickly ended. I wanted more just as it was starting to reel me in. There's a whole world of untapped potential in giving more Negan backstory. Though, we're not here to talk about the comics, this is the thread for its TV series. With the shows adaptation, I liked that it featured more of Negan and Lucille's relationship. Though at the same time, I felt it a bit too on the nose/manipulative as a way of showing "look guys, Negan was a really good husband to his dying wife. Even after he cheated on her and became a deadbeat after losing his job." I was accepting that they gave Negan a purpose for his actions in fighting to keep Lucille alive when he raided the doctors for chemo. I also liked how the tables were seemingly flipped. Negan knocked out with a baseball bat. Negan interrogated inside an RV. Negan held as prisoner to a gang of baddies, etc etc. But the episode was also missing a lot more. I found that there should've been more pre-apocalypse (the scene which Lucille learns of her diagnosis; which felt very Breaking Bad like), or even have the audience be shown of Negan coaching kids at the school gym and perhaps the bar incident that cost him to be fired. What I also would have liked seen (and this goes for the comic too) is Negan's gathering of his soon to be Saviors, followed by the discovery of the Sanctuary. The comic and the TV series showed us Negan transforming into the iconic villain but we never saw how he created that cult status in making a name for himself. There was some questionable prequel-itis elements too. Like, here's how Negan got the leather jacket, and this is how Negan came in ownership of his barbed wire bat, and here's where Negan first gave his monologue, so on and so forth. The overall episode was much more enjoyable than the bumpy quality of consistency throughout these six bonus episodes. While these six episodes were nothing more than "throwaway" side stories that either do little to progress the plot or focus on a handful of characters mainly due to COVID restrictions, it was done in service to the fans holding them over while waiting for the final season's summer premiere. Not entirely essential episodes. I would say two out of the six actually helped set up Season 11 plot points. Those being Maggie's return and Negan's unresolved high tensions with Maggie. Looking forward to seeing where those threads go in the future. |

I don’t need or want a subplot of another villainous group to bog down the main story. We’ve had enough of those. And these last 24 episodes better make the most of it when wrapping up the show. |

I have no idea but I've been wondering the same thing myself. If the spinoff is anything like the last episode or two featuring them, I'm gooood. Carol can only lose her mind so many times, Daryl really isn't interesting enough to carry a series of his own. He's improved over the Gimple era of Daryl but still not an interesting enough character.

Content aside I think it was a huge mistake disclosing that info about a spin off. It was already getting silly with how death proof both characters are but with a spin off in mind I find that any jeopardy is completely lost.
