Seems there were quite a few I wanted this week ('come out and play' and 'take shelter' were buy-later blus I just threw into this order)

G.I. Joe steelbook from Amazon.de, the rest from Amazon.com.

Now, my question is this: Are Criterion Collection movies worth checking out? But looking at these pics makes me think YES. What am I missing out on, guys?

Some of the best films ever made are released by Criterion. Usually, what you can expect from their releases, is top-notch transfers, an abundance of extras and special features, great artwork and a fact-filled booklet, usually containing an interview or two with people involved in the making of the film. Obviously, I'm a big fan and highly recommend trying one out some time.

The next B&N 50% sale should be in November, just check the deals thread for info about possibly saving even more money on them, since they are typically expensive compared to most releases. For example, using my B&N 10% off member discount, various coupons, and discounted gift cards, those 60 I purchased, which retail around $2500, only cost me $660 out of pocket.

Highly overrated IMO.

I own the few good ones released by Criterion, Shallow Grave, Dazed and Confused, The Game etc.

The aq/pq quality is impeccable, the choice of films treated (again IMO) not so much..

Love 97% of the films in your collection so we have similar taste

How can such a huge collection of films be "overrated," though?

There are so many different directors, actors, and films in the Criterion Collection, using a blanket statement like that confuses me. That's like saying that a particular genre of film is overrated.

Overrated? What do you want them to do Evil Dead, Spiderman, and Mean Girls.

I mean Criterion are doing films that probably would never be on blu in the first place.

Mainly Foreign films I guess.

The only criterions I have are Dazed and Confused, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Game. What others would you recommend?

@Shallow: Have you seen some of their incredible non English language releases or are you dismissing them outright? Examples: Wings of Desire, Le Havre, La Jetée, 8 1/2 and In The Mood For Love.
