I didn't see your earlier link and didn't know we couldn't link to other sites...I'll edit my post to remove the link...

Sorry if this has been posted but can anyone list all the exclusives for each store on release day? Do we have pics? I am a huge batman fan and want to pick up every edition I can find.

Good review, PQ doesn't look nearly as good as the dark knight, still pretty damn good.

You're right, its better.
Also only a 3.5 for the extras, compared to most of today's releases this is a great package(Avengers got a 4 and except for the commentary, which wasn't even included in my copy, there's not much else to be excited for).

do we know (I didn't find it in the review) how many minutes are "in" IMAX 1.78:1 -what's the total minutes of "IMAX scenes" ?

how many times the movie switch from scope ratio to 1.78:1..?
I guess it's a bit like in Transformers II....?

I dunno, I always feel slightly skeptical of glowing reviews of tentpole flicks on sites like this (technical-oriented) because I can easily picture a reviewer embellishing the positives/softening their real take so as to avoid the headache and inevitable dirty-diapered tittybaby death threat shitstorm that would ensue were they to have the audacity to do anything less than completely deepthroat the flick...but that's just me. Then again that would make for truly spineless journalism and I see no reason not to give the benefit of doubt.

...And by tentpole flicks, I mean, uh, Christopher Nolan films

The 35mm shots looks very dark and has a huge amount of black crush. Damn.

Looks fine to most of us. None of the issues from TDK release seem to be present here.

Keep in mind they weren't reviewed by the same person. I was VERY disappointed in the Avengers special features. I really wish I had picked up the Target version with the extra documentary. They barely had any documentary footage in the regular release. I am not a fan of commentaries, so that part of it doesn't impress me. I also don't care about deleted scenes. I want interviews with the cast and crew more than anything, so it was pretty lame that they had 15 minutes total on the disc. Looks like TDKR has a lot more than that. Obviously it doesn't have a commentary, so that will probably disappoint the commentary fans out there. But it has nearly 2 hours of HD documentaries for TDKR itself, plus a nearly 1 hour HD documentary on the history of the Batmobile.

Why doesn't a big movie like this get a 7.1 surround mix?
Please educate me

Probably because it wasn't filmed with 7.1.
I'm no expert but if it was filmed(recorded?) in 5.1 then I see no reason for the BD to have 7.1.

well, even if it's "just" 50 minutes it's far more than Transformers II... then...

is there a review which details which scenes of Batman Rises are in iMAX...? (is the "final battle" almost entirely in iMAX ?)

Yep, TDKR was only mixed with 6 channels in mind. I this case you are getting what was intended.

Here's what I don't get... 35mm prints are virtually non-existent in theaters these days with the exception of smaller movie chains and mom and pop theaters/ drive-ins. Hell, some studios wont even be making 35mm prints anymore next year. So most theatres are showing films in HD at either 2K or 4K.

Why is it that studios are not just transferring the files used for the hard drives at the theatre level for Bluray? It seems that the general feeling is that the transfers are sometimes lacking on Bluray but looked great in theatres. So where in the transition of mediums is this occurring? There should be no reason for black crush, ringing, halos or any other image imperfections.

It just doesn't make sense to me.

Great review Ken! I had never heard of this movie before and was thinking about doing a blind buy...but your review pushed me over the, proverbial, edge!
