Throwing another comment in for "Glad I checked this thread" - I had no idea a new version set was coming. I had the 5.99 versions ordered today but was able to cancel.

I think the current Rambo 4K will be fine (just ordered it). But I’m sure the original films will benefit the most from the remastering. But I already bought the first 3 films last year or the year before. Happy enough with them for as much as I watch them.

I couldn't wait, so I went ahead and got the Scandinavian releases of 1-3.

Good news all around for these three;

They all use the StudioCanal encodes, they have decent subtitles (in all Nordic languages plus english) and they are english friendly as the menus are in english and Rambo 3 is the uncut version, complete with the horse tripping scene.

I'll get the new encodes day one, but I was planning a Rambo marathon during the holidays, so I needed to get these either way.

Those initial 4ks reminded me of when the trilogy first came out on Blu ray, it was almost a guarantee it would be done better again later. Of course I owned them all like a rube, patiently excited for this new set hoping for next year.

First Blood was well received and reviewed when the 4K disc first arrived.
If you can find the original thread for it you will see how much it was liked. Now of course the haters here say 'it's so bad'...LMAO

I've never seen the original 4ks but if a new and possibly better version is coming out it's a no brainer to just wait until that version gets cheap as well.

Bought first blood 4k today. Watched it. Still one of my faves. Seems a bit darker than I remember the bluray looking. It was a few shots when Rambo booby trapped the cops in the woods. The punji spring sticks in the guys thighs was almost pitch black. Glad I didn't buy the rest in 4k. Yes I love the franchise but I think the blus will be fine....for now.

I wouldn't say that it's bad, but more like this is kind of a movie doesn't really have much to gain from a 4k release. I switched between the 4k and blu-ray discs and couldn't really see much difference on my 85" Sony TV. Of course there is some deeper and brighter colours, but the only thing that looked really good was the police cars and their lights. BUT since this is one of my all time favourite movies, this was an instant buy for me. Just watched it the other day though.

Every movie save for something shot on some obsolete video format would gain from a 4K release, assuming the movie was left alone in terms of DNR or insane color timing. Even if detail gains are minimal over Blu-ray like say 16mm features, you still benefit from better color and dynamic range plus you get better compression too.

I would say that this, among many other things, is a matter of opinion. I did mention brighter and deeper colours, which makes this a "good buy" for ME. Like I also mentioned, this kind of a movie shot in film doesn't have THAT MUCH to gain from a 4k release. Yes, the picture is sharper but the noise/grain especially in some closeups of faces was close to unbearable for me. I personally do like DNR and I do think that Terminator 2 for example had a picture that was very pleasant for my eyes. My Sony TV also does amazing job upscaling 1080p, so this might also make the 4k look only slightly better.

The idiots here always ruin it for everyone else when it comes to insiders posting on this site. Thanks for the info, set sounds awesome.

Oh, nevermind. Had to check a couple of your comment on this forum and you seem to be here just to tell how you are the one who knows this stuff - no one else. And to throw in a moronic lol comment every now and then.
