A $500 device should have every feature, and more, that their $250 4K disc player has (Sony UBP X800M2).
If it wasn’t for VR I would go Xbox this gen.

I'm not interested in the new consoles but I am VERY interested in the new Nvidia RTX 30 series cards. The $500 card supposedly outperforms the mighty 2080ti, which was a $1200 card last gen and the only card that could run native 4K gaming at a decent frame rate. The new top of the line card, the RTX 3080, can run 4K games at native 4K with no interpolation, with ray tracing, above 60fps for only $700.

My eyes !

Please can you spoiler that.
(Just kidding)

I mean,... maybe Xbox is ok what do I know. In my life since windows 3.1 microshaft has maintained a steady level of unreliability. Though I am a windows insider and did beta test windows 10. (Early beta was better than XP)

Speaking of a 10 year old format there’s only 1 ever Blu Ray player that can’t play a cd. One and only one and it’s a decision not by design.
(PS4)

Im 97.32% certain if PS5 supports VR then it supports 3DBD.

I still use both.

I help people with both also. (Volunteer IT for my church)

I’ve never had an Xbox I do know sometimes what matters in the decision is which system your gamer friends are using. Cross platform play could happen someday.

I’m not so into gaming these days. Mostly movies and music. (Older music mostly)
I’m enjoying rebuying my blus on UHD BD.

I guess that's all you have lately, so you have to enjoy it. Here is the Thread for PS5, and no DV or HDR10+.

You guys better take care of your OPPO's or buy another back-up. I don't think the PS5 is the Savior of Disc!

Or I could just use my quality Pioneer player. Or I could buy a Xbox with DV and Atmos, or I could wait and see if DV is confirmed for PS5.

As usual, you are commenting about things you don’t know about.

Or you could even include, if I may, the various superb high-end players from Sony and Panasonic - (just to add to your already excellent suggestions).

I watch most of the movies online because it's cheaper. Besides I think a collection of movies can look quiet impressive. I love looking at others movie collections. It's always a good thing to talk about and a nice way to find out the movie taste of your friends.
I like having my favorite movies at my side and being able to watch them at every time. That's why I try to build up a collection of my favorite movies.

If I remember correctly PS4 didn’t support 3DBD at launch but it was added with fw update.

If the PS5 UHD playback doesn’t support DV now that doesn’t mean it won’t in time.

The main focus at launch is the gaming experience.

It would be odd adding such a feature though. Why not just release it at launch? There has to be something else going on if they don’t.

The gaming experience is fine but Sony don’t want to concede specs to the Xbox.

Time will tell.

Both the PS3 and the PS4 changed a lot with FW updates.

Guys,... when I come here lately it’s like I get a basic version of the forum and no ones collection shows and things seem paired down like I’m on a mobile version of the site. If I’m logged out the forum loads as normal.

I feel like I’m on double secret probation. Ironically on my phone I get the full version

I tend to replace electronics way too often. But I also don't junk my old stuff. Sometimes it is kept around for functionality (i.e. old consoles so I can retro-game), other times it is moved (the projector in my bed room is my old 1080p 3D projector from my HT when I went 4k) and other times it is passed along (plenty of TVs, projectors receivers....) have gone to people I know to continue their lives.

Personally I have no issue with motivation (i.e. new features/improvements make you want to buy new equipment). But I do have a huge disdain for planned obsolescence (i.e. forced to buy new because you can't use the product anymore since an important feature is no longer supported.)

that is why you have to pre-order it as soon as the pre-orders are made live. I tried amazon and BB and Walmart was the only one I managed to get one. Never pre-ordered from them hopefully all will go well and fast.

the issue is this tweet

Quote:
The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are the first consoles ever with gaming in Dolby Vision® (coming soon) and Dolby Atmos® (available at launch).⁣⁣
some interpret it as a time exclusive/maybe PS5 won't have it/maybe Sony/Dolby are still negotiating. Some see it as only applying to gaming others to everything....

Quote:
See how much you like that "sucking motion" if you ever get a disc stuck inside the machine; a disc tray can be pried open if need be. Touching these extra sensitive 4K discs unnecessarily increases the risk of scratches that could cause disc reading errors; not a fan of the design at all.
both 3 & 4 where that way and i have never had it get stuck.

My biggest objection is that I do not like the disc being touched, especially on the playback side, while being absorbed into the machine. 4K discs are far more sensitive than are blu-rays, so it is another area of concern to me.

Do the Xbox consoles with 4K disc drives use trays or do they suck the discs inside, too?
1) why would a sucker mean you need to touch the data side of the disk any more than a tray?
do you sit on your couch, take the disk as a frisbee and throw it at the player while getting it in the slot?
I have never handled a disk differently based on how it loads.

2) yes the xbox series x is also a sucker.

when the PS3 came out it made sense to buy it as a BD player (1000$ crappy BD player vs cheaper better PS3) but if someone was just looking for a UHD player I don't see the reason to buy a console.
