I agree. When ones health is in danger the importance of material things melt away. Hope your loved ones fully recover.

The ps1 had a reliable disc drive. The trays on the ps2 were prone to failure over time, and they eventually reverted back to the ps1 model with the ps2 slim. I’m not sure about the ps3 or 4. Maybe they should just stick to top loaders though. They seem to last a long time (less moving parts).

I hope that she recovers quickly. Your family has had one tough week; may it all get better from here forward.

I am confident she will. I’m not thinking about the alternative.

Thanks guys.

Wendell, you are correct but watching films has got me through a lot of the last week. Difference being, I have my mobile switched on and I am nervous about it ringing.

I’m allowed outside from Tuesday and back to work. I’m hoping that by next weekend, things will be looking up.

In all fairness, I have never had any disc player or console "eat" a disc. I have never had a tray or slot loading mechanism fail. I believe that if it were to happen, it would be easier to remove the disc from a tray fed player than from a slotted console. I have had to do this before for other people many years ago with CDs. It was easy to coax the tray open and retrieve the disc.

My main objection to these consoles that vacuum discs inside themselves is that the disc's playback surface is being touched as it is inserted and ejected through the machine's slot.

In a tray based player there is no such contact; the disc is placed in the tray by hand where it sits kind of suspended by its edges within the tray. I have no objection to the top load method, either. The less contact with the disc's playback surface the better.

I seriously hope everything works out fine for you and your family. Out of curiosity, what did you watch last week?

I definitely am picking up a theme. I never saw the tv adaptation of Woman in Black but heard it is really good. I even liked the movie with Daniel Radcliffe in it.

It’s really creepy. The kind of thing British tv was excellent at in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s superior to the film in every way imo. The scenes with the titular character are used sparingly and every one of those scenes has the utmost tension.

And what about the Daniel Radcliffe version? Is it any good?

The Radcliffe version is the one I own, and liked it a lot. Technical merits are strong as well. I am seeking out the other one also.

Vudu has the Radcliffe one, but it also has Woman in Black 2.

Yes, I managed to get the limited edition slipcover with mine .

The Radcliffe one is good, the tv version is great. It’s always tough to recommend U.K. specific productions because I don’t know if they translate as well, but something like this is Universal.

The tv version is just way eerier, like I said before, the UK did creepy and atmospheric superbly well in that era. I felt the titular character was overused in the film and became less scary because of that. In this version, you really remember each appearance. It reminds me of the Hammer House of horrors tv show from a similar era that just had bags of atmosphere.

I would rate as follows

Tv version 5/5
Film 3/5
Sequel 2/5

I believe it’s locked to region B, but if I remember correctly, you are region free?

Woman in Black 2 was not as good as the first one in my opinion.

I haven’t picked up the mod kit for my Oppo yet as I got sidetracked by upgrading subs. That will be my next upgrade and will definitely add this one to the collection. Thanks for the recommendation. I love a well done ghost story / haunted house kind of movie.

It’s been quite the week.
I had it and it was terrible. High fever for days and could not breathe without stressing for one day that I remember like no other. Was holed up in 2 rooms for 3 weeks. Thought my lungs would never come back to normal because the tightness lingered. Slowly in the end of the second week it got better. Hated not seeing my wife and family and pets. It was a nightmare.

You know it is bad when you are so bored, you release stress and then you think you are going to die from breathing bad!

This is not comforting it seems, but I want to tell you that you tell your sister to stay strong. My biggest thing was getting my mind right and shallow breathing. Concentrate on the mind telling your body that you will beat it. Mini stretches at first, walking around, eating right (to keep the waste going out (!) and most of all for me was praying, and then stretching and breathing again. Hot tea/lemon just felt good.

Saying a prayer for your family/sister now. I know so many that got it, and they got it bad (worse than I did), but they pulled through and I am sending the positive vibes that the same will happen with your family as well.
