People only ever claim it isn't when it doesn't back up their opinion.

Yes, because everything on Wikipedia is always 100% correct.

Yeah, Wikipedia is pretty piss poor at best, but it's true on this one. The first cut of Star Wars was demolished and most of it was re-shot.

The first cut that was destroyed, is that where all the recently released deleted scenes for "A New Hope" came from?

And these "original visions" he had for the movies, they keep changing apparently! Was Hayden Christensen even born in 1983? Did adding a another ridicules NOOOOOOOO to the series really add anything? Other than a disgusted audience?

Bottom-line: It's always good to show contempt for your fans, George.
They're his movies. He can do what he wants with them. Buy them or don't buy them but don't buy them and then complain about them afterward. He has every right to change them. Every change he's made has been to make the two trilogies branch together better.

No. They were actually deleted scenes. Most of those 'A New Hope' deleted scenes from the blu-ray set have popped up in bootleg form in the past. I've got a few of the scenes from the 'FIRST' cut.

I believe when movies enter pop culture and become as well known as Star Wars he loses the right to ruin the movies for everyone just because his OCD riddled mind believes that they can never be perfect! "Never perfect, never perfect, never Lucas, never, never!" George says to himself constantly while hitting himself on the head.

Look up a man named Steven Spielberg and see how he treats his audience.

By the way, George Lucas had little to do with The Empire Strikes Back besides the story and that's probably why it's the best in the series! He didn't direct, nor write it - does that movie also belong to him?

Sounds like a few people need to see the 'Starwars timeline of revisions' image.

By the way..is it £20 yet (all 6 films) :P :P

They are ALL his films. Do you realize HOW much Star Wars there is? I don't care how Spielberg treats his audience. I like many of his films but really, I don't care. George gave us Star Wars. Whatever HE wants to do to ANY of HIS 6 films he can. Sure he didn't direct 2 of them but how does that make them any less his? Would we have had Empire WITHOUT George? No we wouldn't. Yes, Empire is by far the best and yes Kersh was a large part of that but you can't say the story has nothing to do with the reason that its brilliant. This George Lucas "raped" my childhood crap has gone too far.
I mean
"George Lucas had little to do with The Empire Strikes Back besides the story and that's probably why it's the best in the series! He didn't direct, nor write it - does that movie also belong to him?" I've never read so much crap in my life.

The first time myself and many other people saw Star Wars was the Special Editions from the late 90s. Should he release them on BluRay too?

Did George not personally finance TESB? I believe he did, and he also selected Kershner, in which case, he certainly has the right to do with it what he pleases, as with the other films. Do I agree with all the changes?Certainly not, however, having watched the original OT and the new versions, I fail to see how they fundamentally alter the movies in such a way, so as to render them impossible to watch forever. They're films, iconic films yes, but films nonetheless, whose owners are perfectly free to do with them what they please, regardless of whether its's considered "right" or "wrong" by the media or anybody else. Complaining is likely to lead to nothing for some time to come.

I'm almost certain Star Wars fans wouldn't complain as much if the original theatrical versions were restored and made available on Blu-ray. We'd be happy for Mr. Lucas insert as many CGI rabbits into his revised editions as he sees fit. I honestly think people's perception of him would change in an instant but there will be clowns who'll be waving 'WE WON!' flags in his face if and when he relents instead of just saying 'Thank you this means so much.'

The problem is that the two sides are at loggerheads with each other and both see giving in as an admission that they're wrong. I believe Lucas is one stubborn guy which is one of the reasons for his amazing success but it doesn't help him in this instance, as we cherish the memories of the original unaltered films. He now puts us on the same level as studio bosses who altered his early films because he didn't have 'final cut' privileges, so I'd imagine most suggestions from an outside source are greeted the same way.

Sir Steven has seen the error of his ways, with ET The Extra Terrestrial in particular, that the changes weren't really necessary and the original film was fine as it was. Now don't get me wrong I'm fine with extended versions and director's cut if they accompany the original but when the revised version is the only version out there it annoys me.

One day I think we'll see the unaltered versions, it won't be for a while but we will get them.. and it will be a day long remembered....

I bet you anything that it won't be on blu-ray format though.

I have a feeling that when DTBD (Direct To Brain Download) is released, that we'll finally have the unaltered original trilogy in HD.

Once he's popped his clogs they'll probably bung it out on Blu-ray to make some more dough

Like Chip75 said, i wouldn't be complaining if he would just release the unaltered movies already! Nothing is stopping him! He's basically just being a complete ******* about the whole thing, saying that our opinion are wrong. I can't enjoy these movies, knowing that the creator thinks everything is wrong with them and every stupid little detail has to be changed! It ruins the immersion i used to have with them.

(Fake) George Lucas quote: >>Those movies you grew up loving? Yeah, those were shit and you may never be able to enjoy them again because i'm only releasing the TRUE versions according to me and no one else! These are my movies and i can do whatever the hell i want with them and none of you can stop me because i own the multi-million dollar company with ties to everything in existence! The fans who supported me are ****ing idiots for enjoying my false vision! Now, enjoy my FIFTH original vision and just you sit there and be happy! And dont tell me i'm a terrible human being for doing that to my fans, because i'm the genius who created Star Wars! Then i'll get pissy-faced and start whining! You dont wanna see me when i'm whining...!<<
-Seriously, add an evil laugh to any of his interviews and he'll look like The Emperor from Return of The Jedi!

He used to be one of the good guys... Back when he made American Graffiti, THX 1138 and the first Star Wars, but that was a long time ago.

Yep, he imo is becoming a modern day Claude Monet. His lose of eye-sight or mental disposition has effected a thoroughly enjoyable series of movies or modern art.
[Show spoiler]His demise into insignificance can only be furthered by his aging years.

Isn't america doing some sort of weird 'protecting american history' and adding films into the whole shaabang!! Lets hope they add SW2011 before he deals out further blows too the continuity of the story. The example that annoys me the most is the 'Nooo' bs vader shouts. I don't wish to enter a new debate but it was an unsaid monumental moment where the father regrets his actions & protects his son from the death & in turn the dark-side.

He's mental I tell you!!1 LOL (20quid and its a buyer )
