yes i'm fully aware that was 2004....people like to say USC won the title in 2003 when in fact the BCS champion is LSU....hence why i said talk of a 3-peat was annoying

Just looked it up and that game was even uglier than I thought. USC won 55-19. Bob Stoops teams are notorious for losing big games. They always seem to fold either in the last regular season game or in the BCS championship. Only in 2000 did they actually finish and win the big one.

I'd call it a national championship. People tend to call both the 1991 Miami and Washington teams national champs even though they split so I'd put the 2003 LSU and USC teams on the same level. Blame the BCS.

The thing is that can be said about most Heisman winning QB's. Look at the list and it's not pretty. Almost none of them pan out in the NFL and many don't even make the NFL.

I've long said the Heisman should be given out AFTER the Bowl games. It just makes the whole system look ridiculous when someone like Troy Smith wins the Heisman and plays like garbage in the biggest game of the year.

Helps when it's his first game in like 2 months and his #1 receiver gets hurt in the first quarter on a kick-off return, doesn't it?

Troy Smith and that 2006 Ohio St. team was one of the most overrated in college football history. They played a sorry schedule plain and simple. A lot of co-workers who were Ohio St. fans at the time called me crazy when I told them Florida was going to win by at least 3 TD's a month before the game happened. Guess what? They won by 4 TD's.

Had Ginn not injured himself it probably still would have been a 21+ point loss. I still can't believe the Dolphins wasted a top 10 pick on that guy. Same thing happened the following year when LSU layed another title game beatdown on O(verrated)SU.

We got a punt returner! Yay!
I bet the Dolphins were happy when Tony Sparano and Bill Parcells took over that sorry mess. Still think BSU and the Horned Frogs are getting shafted big time, well maybe not the latter.

I can't believe Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin meant that much to that team, they're just not the same this year, I wonder what their commitment freshmen look like, they need a LOT of help.

chris leake was the starting QB for Fla that year, tebow was a freshman and came in for goal line plays...it was mostly floridas defense that made ohio st look silly

Funny thing was Tebow was just a backup who took few snaps in 2006. Chris Leak led Florida to the 2006 championship. It seems like most people forget that and credit Tebow with both titles. Don't think Percy Harvin put up huge numbers in 2006 either.

The FBI is investigation the Newton allegations? I figured this was only a possible violation of NCAA rules. Didn't think there may be actual federal laws violated.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5813734

Quote:
An attorney for the former Mississippi State player who helped spark the NCAA's investigation of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton says his client has been interviewed by the FBI.

Phil Abernethy wrote in an e-mail Tuesday that John Bond met with federal and state investigators and "cooperated fully with both agencies."

Abernethy says Bond would have no further comment because of the "ongoing nature" of the investigation. The FBI has declined comment.

Bond, a former Mississippi State quarterback, told MSU officials in January he had been asked for $180,000 by a former teammate in exchange for Newton's commitment to the Bulldogs. The man was later identified by ESPN.com as Kenny Rogers.

Rogers is expected to be interviewed by the NCAA, according to his attorney, Doug Zeit.

While the FBI won't talk about the focus of the investigation I've heard the FBI investigation has more to do with what Newton's dad Cecil did with the money if he actually received it. Cecil Newton has 5 churches that are non-profit organizations and if Newton got the money and funneled it through them than there could be some huge IRS and criminal issues.

Ok, I figured it would end up being some tax issue. That seems to be what they nail everyone on these days. I seem to recall Newton's dad talking about how poor he was. And yet he runs 5 "non-profit" churches?

I think they are all very poor churches. I know one of the churches was on the brink of condemnation by the city but got fixed up. There's some speculation that rather than get paid directly Newton had the money go to his churches (this is all rumor and speculation, there is no proof to any of this, it's mainly message board rumors). TMZ is reporting that the FBI wants to talk to an Auburn booster who was recently arrested for bribing a politician.

Big game in the ACC this weekend with the Miami/Virginia Tech matchup. Stephen Morris will once again be behind center for the 'Canes. Our offense has been a whole different animal with Morris as the helm, it's really hard to believe the kid is a true freshman. If we win Saturday, and that is nothing close to a sure thing, I don't see how Randy Shannon can pull Morris out of the starting lineup. Stephen Morris has something that Jacory Harris doesn't. Harris is undoubtedly the physically more talented quarterback, but Morris has the pocket presence and intangibles that cannot be taught. He might have single handedly saved Randy Shannon his job. I'm watering at the mouth thinking about our offense next season with the players we have at the skill positions.

I think everyone gave Va Tech up for dead after that 0-2 start which included a loss to I-AA James Madison. Since then Tech has won 8 straight games. Then again the ACC is really aweful this year so it's not all that surprising they're 6-0 in conference.
