Just watched Back to the Sea (ab ins meer) a 2012 animated film from China.

I was again surprised how much I really enjoyed this despite the overall poor reviews. It started out dull but evolved into being quite clever, holding my interest throughout with multiple subplots. But note some elements of the storyline could be disturbing for little children.

Very good 3D with nice depth. Characters drawn flat art style. However, picture detail was often on the soft side and in many sequences too dark. If these drawbacks are not of concern, recommended for the 3D collector.

Region B German edition with English Audio.

After suffering through a few weak conversions, last night I re-watched Detective Dee: Four Heavenly Kings, just to remind myself what a good modern 3D movie looks like.

Is there an English friendly version being sold somewhere?

Only by bootleggers.

The only legit 3D Blu-rays are the French and German ones, neither of which are English-friendly.

Bummer. My German and French are nowhere near good enough to allow me to enjoy a movie.

Just ordered the complete Spartacus series (13 BR discs) - $25.99, free 1-day Prime shipping. This series is NOT 3D, but does include the polarized 3D final “Ring of Fire” battle sequence from the season “Gods of the Arena” in the bonus features. It was previewed at Comicon 2011 and I always wanted to see that. I think it’s only like 5 minutes long, but the series has lotsa blood & nudity, so

Isn't the French version missing parts of the movie ? or did I read this one wrong.

Create your own subtitles using the existing ones as the base. It's not always straightforward and can be time consuming. I remember both issues being the case for this movie. But you end up being able to watch a fun Detective Dee movie with great 3D

It was the German version I watched, I don't recall reading about any issues with the French one though.

Glad they changed the packaging. Mine came in a cardboard sleeve rolodex and discs are difficult to extract. Very annoying but I think i paid less than $15.

Hi Okie

Action movies are okay but serious dramas like the original Kirk Douglas production of Spartacus (depicting the cruelty of slaves fighting to the death for the amusement of the crowds) are hard to watch.
Had no problem with Kirk, Spock and McCoy dueling it out in "bread and circuses".

Just to be clear my joke was referring to a line in the comedy Airplane! The original Spartacus in 4K is a glory to behold.

Just watched Legends of Flight.

Some truly amazing 3D with tremendous depth and "eye popping" pop outs though one might find some subtle ghosting at times*. Great color saturation and actually quite informative. Very much recommended.

* Think the battery becoming weak might have attenuated 3D quality. Lately the generic active glasses were registering on the set while not always activating the 3D effect. Ten minutes into the film they finally needed recharging. Put on another fully charged pair, watched from the beginning and ghosting became almost not worth mentioning. Both pairs by the same Asian manufacturer.
