Yeah, Virginia Tech was idiot for scheduling the James Madison game the Saturday following the Boise game. They should have done what Boise did and scheduled a bye. The turnaround was just too quick. They played a game that finished late Monday night. That meant they could not practice Tuesday (probably watched video) and a lighter practice Wednesday. They then maybe had a full practice Thursday before a walk-through on Friday. That would have been tough enough if they had won the Boise game but after losing it they probably weren't focused during the week. The James Madison game would have been difficult anyway, they are a decent team (beat FCS #1 William and Mary this past week) and FCS teams often bring their A games when they are playing a BCS team, especially when it's the top in-state team, and they caught Tech at the perfect time.

I tried countless sports betting websites and not a single one even has a line for the Florida-Appalachian St. game this week. Guess nobody thinks a repeat of App St.-Michigan is even in the realm of possibility. It would be pretty funny if it happened though. App St. isn't as good as they were a few years ago but they are stil one of the best I-AA teams. Gator fans locally are already in freakout mode. If they blew one to App St. in their own house and fell to 6-5 there might be mass suicide.

Most sites and casinos don't run lines on games featuring FCS teams. It's just too hard to handicap because the lines makers haven't actually seen any games featuring the FCS teams.

It sounds like Hawaii is near a deal to join the Mountain West for football and the Big West for other sports. Hawaii is unhappy with the WAC for adding Texas-San Antonio, Texas State, and the University of Denver because this will cause their travel costs to increase. Moving it's other sports to the Big West will save Hawaii a lot in travel costs.

This will just further decimate the WAC. A Hawaii move will mean the current top 4 WAC teams will be leaving and that the WAC must find another football school to join. They've already been turned down by Montana but maybe Montana would reconsider if Montana State was also invited.

Wonder is App St. is the reason for that. Most sports betting sites and Vegas did have a line on that Michigan-App St. game that App St. won. I believe the line was something in the range of 32-35 points.

Last year I know some sites had Iowa favored by 39 against Northern Iowa, and Iowa ended up winning by 1 thanks to 2 missed field goals by UNI in the final seconds.

Tomorrow's Northwestern-Illinois game played at Wrigley Field will only feature one end zone due to safety concerns. Wrigley wasn't big enough to have adequate space behind both end zones so they decided it was safer to have the offensive team always going the same way. I believe there will still be a second end zone in case the defense scores a touchdown. This was just announced, Pat Fitzgerald was on Dan Patrick's radio show this morning and he didn't know that then.

They're playing "losers walk" like we used to growing up!

It shouldn't be too big of an issue to play this way. tv ought to get a few more timeouts that's all!

You might as well stick a fork in the WAC, if they lose Hawaii to the Mountain West I don't see how they can survive. Great pickup for the Mountain West though.

It's just crazy that they're just figuring this out now. They've been planning the game for months and should have had computer models of what the field was going to look like. The field is clearly unsafe from the picture below.

probably one of those things where on paper it was great! then someone who plays football walked on the field and said: "uh.... this won't work"

Another bad idea was in the NBA this preseason where the Miami-Orlando game was supposed to be played in an arena with a court on top of the ice rink. Turned out the ice just caused the court to become so slippery it was impossible to play on and the game was cancelled at the last minute.

Well I'd assume they are experienced in properly changing the setup between NBA courts and NHL icein Toronto. The Heat-Magic game was supposed to be in Tampa at a venue where I don't think they've ever done it before, which probably caused the chaos and eventual cancellation of the game.
