Default Prey (2022)

Available at apparition.design

I've updated the original cover to include the proper specs
and bonus features based on the official release coming October 3rd.
Will probably update again once I get more information.

Default Stranger Things (2016-2022)

Over the past couple days I've given my "Stranger Things" cover art a refresh making a number of improvements. One of my primary focuses was in making sure there was parity across the entire set with respect to items carried over from cover to cover in addition to things like text spacing, the positioning of logos and so forth. (Image below provided by another forum member who had printed out the cover art.)

(Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.)

For Seasons 1 and 2 I had offered two versions of the cover art, one set had 10mm spines, the other set 15mm spines. When creating the cover art for Seasons 3 and 4 I had only worked up versions with 10mm spines. Decided to go for broke so versions with 15mm spines are available now as well. To check out the cover art just hit up the link action below in my forum signature. (Only the 10mm versions have been uploaded to Uncovered.name so far. Time permitting I'll be uploading the 15mm versions as well.)

Default Special Ops: Lioness (2023)

I decided this evening to create some Blu-ray cover art for this TV series. Below is a preview of the front portion which I originally sourced from a single poster. Maintaining the posters original proportions I resized the image positioning it vertically best I could. I then removed the text below the title treatment adding my own also adding the billing text at the top. On my initial attempt the billing text ran directly through the middle of Morgan Freeman's forehead as I didn't have enough vertical space to work with. I made it work, but wasn't crazy about it. I also didn't care for the lower portion as not enough of Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Oliveira made it into the frame. Eventually I ended up creating a shorter version of the poster basically while at the same time maintaining the original proportions of the key art. End result shown below.

The end result shown above is actually the combination of four different images. Each of the images varied in size. Two of the images were posters. The other two images used the same arrangement of key art. Well, the background layers varied to a degree. Using the source images I created separate layers for the top and bottom portions, the top layer exceeding the size of my canvas. Any textual elements were removed including the title treatment if present. Once creating the layers I added the title treatment to the bottom portion and billing text to the top portion. I then reduced the layer for the top portion in size until the space between the bottom of the billing text and Morgan Freeman's head was equal to the space above the billing text. Gotta love it when a plan comes together!

Somehow I was able to fit a square peg in a round hole. It was quite the challenge. I managed to shift items around and blend things together quite nicely I think. See below.

(Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.)

So I do have quite a few items left to knock out, but it should go very quickly from here now that I've got a good foundation to work with. I plan to replace most of the textual elements that were part of the DVD cover art and other source images I was working from with my own text. I'll also be replacing the images on the back portion within the polaroids. Wish me luck!

Hey AmishParadise!
Great job on this cover... I had completely forgotten about this film.
Is it available on bluray anywhere in the world do you know.

One small thing... I don't know how easy it is... could you re-instate DIANE LANE and JOHN CUSACK's names about the title on the front cover? That'd make in 100% perfect for me then. Thank you buddy... great work as always. And lets hope for an Official Warner Release of this underrated comedy at some point. Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words and no, it doesn't appear this title has been released on Blu-ray yet. Well, at least that I've found. And yeah, I'll see what I can do regarding the front portion. I'll make an alternate version of the cover art available if I'm able to do as you suggested. I eventually recreated the title treatment from scratch. That should give me more flexibility with respect to the size and positioning of the artwork used for the front portion. Perhaps I can create some additional vertical space. I'll see what I can do.

Thank you so so much AmishParadise... your work always delivers!
I feel Diane Lane and John Cusack were such a 'charming pairing' on this movie that to see their names front and center... above the title... would be awesome. Thank you for seeing what you can do. I know it's not an easy cover to recreate.

Yes, lets hope for an official release as I believe it was moderately successful at the time.

Okay, well that worked. After creating my own title treatment the thought didn't occur to me to go back and see if I could create more vertical space with respect to the artwork for the front portion and spine. Sure enough, I had plenty of room to work with. End result shown below. Enjoy!

Default Text that's drowned out by the background it's sitting on.

One of the things that drives me crazy is when text is drowned out by the background it's sitting on. There are a number of different approaches one can take to prevent this. I thought I'd share the approach I took today when adding the billing to the top portion of my "Must Love Dogs" cover art in the event others found it helpful.

So when adding the text I immediately didn't care for how light the background was the text was sitting on, especially the "D" in "Diane Lane". I wanted the text to stand out more, but didn't want to increase the drop shadow already applied to the text as I preferred a cleaner look.

Billing added to top portion of cover art...

My solution was to add a gradient while at the same time making it appear as if a gradient wasn't used. I began by creating a new layer behind the text layers. Within that new layer I selected the portion my images show here applying a black gradient, fully visible to fully transparent from the top to bottom of the selected area.

Black gradient added. Fully visible to fully transparent from top to bottom.

The text certainly stood out at that point. I didn't want the top portion of the image to be that dark though. I wanted to retain the original look of the artwork, the use of a gradient not being obvious. As such, I adjusted the "Blending Mode" of the gradient layer changing it from "Normal" to "Soft Light". End result shown below.

Blending Mode of gradient layer changed from "Normal" to "Soft Light".

The difference before and after I added the gradient is subtle, but just enough so that the text sufficiently stands out from the background it's sitting on, the top portion of the image not appearing overly dark, the use of a gradient not being obvious. Works for me anyway. In any event, just thought I'd share. Now back to work on the cover art I'm creating for the TV Series, "Special Ops: Lioness".

That's really really impressive (and clever) AmishParadise. Great job! I wouldn't have thought of that.
I prefer the version with the billing
What do others think? Anyway, as I say... fab job as always AmishParadise

I like the original version with the larger artwork, but the version with the smaller artwork and billing at the top is growing on me. 😉

Hiya AmishParadise... can I ask you to PM me the DVD cover scan? I just wanted to add the 'Diane Lane and John Cusack are irresistable' critic quote to the bottom. Thank you again so much for your terrific work!

The text from the scan of the DVD cover is of very poor quality and would look even worse once lifted from the background it's sitting on. That being said, I already recreated the review text for the front portion. I just didn't use it as there wasn't enough space there at the bottom. I had a thought though. If I don't extend the artwork into the spine there should be enough room to add the review text at the bottom. I'm stuck here at the computer for a few hours watching paint dry so I'll see what I can come up with.

I had some time to kill this evening so I decided to give my "Must Love Dogs" cover art a good once over. I spent a good bit of time cleaning up the artwork used for the front portion of each in addition to giving the overall look of the front portions a more balanced look.

And at the request of BillyDuffyLove77 I created a third version of the cover art which includes the review text on the front portion across the bottom just as was done with the retail DVD cover art. All three versions are available to view and download via my earlier post, here. (The cover art is also available over at Uncovered.name.) Enjoy!
