Seeing that image twice in succession is too fattening.

I don't know what that is and thus I have never had it. Any dessert with the word "clotted" in its name must be as delightful as it is deadly.

Great call. I rented that disc awhile ago, and keep looking for a good deal to pick it up. Fun movie that had a great Atmos track.

I don't have to depend on streaming to watch new movies. I can rent discs from Redbox. 50+ disc rentals so far this year

I use to rent from Redbox, can't beat $1 a Disc but it's time to move on. The Covid Pandemic has changed everything, Cinemas are struggling the Distribution Model will be different. Here is more news what Disney+ is doing changing the Streaming Landscape!

Neither do I. Not at home now so no access to my database but probably average 5 to 8 new Blu-ray disc titles a month via Netflix by mail. My last tally showed each title cost was ≈ $2 each. My new titles via streaming PPV is ≤ 6 to 7 per year. With disc there no viewing windows that must be used, I start when wanted and take as much time as I want.

I do exercises that will help ensure that I can that 1 oz. package from the mail box to the player.

What else is there for Disney to focus on right now? Theaters are shuttered or they are operating at greatly reduced capacity with few new movies to exhibit and their theme park attendance is down 80% worldwide.

The majority of Americans were streaming before the pandemic and they still are now. Which streaming services they use varies and they may have more idle time with which to watch stuff due to high unemployment and underemployment, but streaming content is not some new behavior brought on by the pandemic.

All of the same distribution methods remain and they will continue to exist after the pandemic. Physical media will continue for those that prize quality and real ownership while streaming will suffice for those who prefer economy and convenience. Many people will use both and they will be able to enjoy what each offers. Not all of us arbitrarily limit ourselves like you do.

Alchav believes that Disney would keep churning out 150-200 million blockbusters if cinemas didn’t exist!

Speaking of source devices. I currently use these three in my dedicated home theater

Panasonic ub420 disc player
ATV4K
Mac Mini JRiver music server

I used to use a HTPC with madVR and 3DLUT calibration. That was before 4K.my system has changed a lot over the years.

Netflix has ended the free 30 day trial period for the streaming service. No more Disney+ try before you buy either.

My equipment racks are in a constant state of flux. Have used almost two cartons of wire ties because of equipment subtractions, additions and movements. Now waiting to see if Apple and/or Zappiti adds any new hardware. Have already procured a new rack shelf in case a Zappiti is added and Middle Atlantic does not provide a custom shelf.

I will never add a pc, and servers to my setup. One big reason why I prefer physical media is, the simplicity of it... Connecting a Blu-ray player to a tv, or receiver and then to a tv, with HDMI cables, and putting discs in the player, is about as simple as it gets. I'm only 39, but I hate computers personally, I rarely use them outside of work, and have no interest in learning more than I currently know about them... If I didn't need to use them for work, to bring in an income, I would never feel the need to ever use them. My home computer barely gets touched, I use my phone for pretty much everything... As long as I can browse the internet on it, that covers 99% of pretty much everything I need and want. If other people are happy working in IT, giving their time designing websites (it's a extremely nerdy line of work in my opinion, I wouldn't be caught dead in an industry like that), to make life easier for me, good lucky to them... I'll take advantage of it and use them for it, but I'll never say thank you to them and that I appreciate their work, or give most of them any money for their efforts.

I consistently made upgrades to my setup/equipment rack between 2006 and 2012, I spend quite a bit of money, but from 2012 to 2018, I didn't really make any, until I started upgrading some equipment to 4K. The only thing I think there is any point added to my setup now is a projector (and acoustic treatment)... If I had the money to purchase my dream speakers, I'd probably purchase those too. A lot of things in this hobby are just bullshit that is really just a waste of money... For instance, did I need my power amps, probably not, a mid range receiver would do perfectly fine... I wouldn't even come close to using the power that my amps put out. There is a thread on an Australian home theatre forum, that the founder of the site started, which laughs at a lot of things that video/audiophiles waste their money on, because they think they can see and hear a difference:

Where do you get the idea I have only one source, don't you see the equipment I have listed. I still have my Panasonic BD Player, and can play all my backup and regular BD and DVD's. I also have my IPTV, with a Server DVR. My System is simple, I can access all my sources through my Sony UHD 4KTV. So I think I'm sitting pretty good!

We’re you expecting a reveal yesterday? I know I was. I suspect they may wait until next year now and push the Apple TV as a game console with a more powerful chip. All the ducks seem to be lined up.

Last I heard you dropped Netflix to HD, because you saw little difference between 4K and HD on your 900E TV ( not DV capable). You don’t have Disney +. Now bailing from Redbox even. One would think you not that interested in streaming either, even if think it’s your current entertainment venue. But hey we all wander with what we entertain ourselfs during this time.

He’s not talking about a player being a source, rather you only use one streaming host. I use several.

I don't understand your point of view where I underlined. I would always thank the people responsible for making my life easier and for improving the quality of it. Why wouldn't I?

There is definitely a law of diminishing returns when it comes to A/V gear. IMO, for an upgrade to be worth the money it must offer an obvious advantage over what I am replacing such as markedly improved picture and sound quality or even just build quality. I will pay extra for a well made component that is designed to last.
