Ralph McQuarrie's died

Without him we wouldn't have the characters the way we love.

I'd have been interesting to see how he'd have designed Jar Jar. Might have made him tolerable

For me, personally, it was the best conversion I've *ever* seen. While I understand the concerns of people who like 3-D to have a lot of "popping out", I don't think that was really necessary here. The 3-D made the interaction with all the CG elements seem far more "realistic" than it could possibly seem in the 2D version. And yes, this does include the podracing scene, imho. To me, it brought the scene to life in a way that didn't happen before. Remember, it's always tricky to use 3-D effectively in any scene that has a lot of fast-paced cutting, if the 3-D is very distracting (i.e., when many people need time to adjust their eyes between shots).

If LFL chooses to make the 3-D stronger for the other movies, that would be fine by me, I think - although I'm not sure it's something that the younger viewers would necessarily want.

Isn't it possible to at least express one's condolences for McQuarrie without any Jar Jar bashing? Dang.

Let's give credit where credit is due, Lucas and Ahmed Best gave us the first major CG character in the history of cinema; Watto is also a very good character, but it's really Jar Jar that most of the kids remember fondly after watching TPM. The character really isn't any more "annoying" than Threepio was in most of the OT. The fact that he's there to help comment on the lack of tolerance of some of the characters (and the wisdom that comes in not underestimating the Gungans) seems to have been completely lost on those who don't fully appreciate him.

I liked all of the CG characters in the prequel movies, and Jar Jar was the best of all, imho. Watto, Dex and the Kaminoans were also pretty good, btw.

Agreed. I can't stand it when people criticize one thing just to make another sound immensely better. If it's so great then it should stand on its own merits without comparisons.

PS, that is not a a criticism of Ralph McQuarrie, because he will be sadly missed.

If nothing else, I think we can all agree on *that*.

RIP Ralph McQuarrie. He was another factor responsible in making Star Wars great.

I've been lucky, my particular Denon amp & PS3 doesn't have a problem.

I have been only inquiring about Star-wars over the last few weeks in a number of stores. And the reply is "we have sold out"...so the conspiracy theorist within me see's this as just a simple ploy.

A ploy to keep the price of SW-bluray at £49.99 for the foreseeable future. I am waiting for £29.99 or lower personally still

Might be waiting a while then, to be honest. It is Star Wars after all, don't expect it to go cheap(er) anytime soon.

I think the logical price floor would be on the order of £40. Of course, the question would be when that happens...

I really can't see a price drop anytime soon. It has sold well so far and its the only way of buying the Star Wars saga on home video at the moment. There will always be people who will buy this and in high numbers. Why would they lower the price?

Their instore prices have always been ridiculous but at the moment, their online prices are awful. They've got no competition on Amazon, Play etc...

I think it'll come down to around £30 at some point this year. History shows with the DVD sets and Blu Ray sets for other films. Rocky, Alien etc

Even the James Bond set £89.99 will be around £60 within a year.

Star Wars will drop, but when it does start looking a future releases, cause it probably will mean a new Star Wars set will be out, either better design/artwork than this ugly set or include 3-D TPM

Went into my local Blockbuster today and spotted a copy of these movies second hand for £30, gave it a look over and looked in a good condition.
