Howdy all! I recently traded in my Dark Knight trilogy collector set BDs for the UHD pack, and I've been kicking myself ever since for not keeping the Mondo art cards. To make up for my blunder, I used the art pieces for this custom cover set. I got pretty lazy and used scans of the studio covers for the back and spine of each, but they get the job done.

Decided to mimic the Shout Covers for Robocop 2 & Robocop 2014 so they all 'match'.

The Blu-ray's I create use the HDMV framework, not BD-J. The HDMV framework is limited to 8-bit indexed PNGs (256 colors), all images (objects) displayed on a given menu page required to use the same color palette. A free tool called PNG Quantizer was creating specifically for this purpose. It's a command line tool that will look at a set of PNG files saving a copy of the files which meet the requirements of HDMV based Blu-ray's. The primary authoring software I use is called BDedit, another free application. BDedit is a tool designed to view and edit the BDMV structure of a Blu-ray. Most people use the application to study and modify existing Blu-ray's. I use the application to create Blu-ray's from scratch. Traditional Blu-ray authoring software uses the WYSIWYG approach, the process of building the BDMV structure being automated as a result. With BDedit the BDMV structure is created manually. The manual approach has numerous advantages over the canned approach used by traditional Blu-ray authoring software. Any videos that will be part of the Blu-ray I author separately using a combination of tools. I generate my Blu-ray subtitles using SubtitleEdit and BDSup2Sub. To confirm the attributes of a video file when needed I use MediaInfo. The menu background videos for my TOP MENUS are encoded to MP4 using FFMPEG, then authored to Blu-ray using BD Rebuilder. For movies and TV episodes I always use multiAVCHD. Once authoring a given video to Blu-ray I rename the resulting MPLS/M2TS/CLPI file set if needed, then integrating the files into my target Blu-ray updating any file references made within the given MPLS file using BDedit in the event the original filenames were changed. Prior to burning to disc using ImgBurn I test the Blu-ray using PowerDVD. Software based Blu-ray players are very forgiving though. They don't strictly adhere to the Blu-ray format as hardware based players do. As such, any time I try something new that's questionable I'll also burn to BD-RE minus the M2TS files for any movie(s) or TV episodes that way I can confirm the Blu-ray plays nice with hardware based Blu-ray players as well. That being said, if you're interested in learning more feel free to engage over in the Doom9 forums. The thread found here chronicles my road down the Blu-ray authoring rabbit hole. Bringing Out the Dead (1999)
![]() Beyond excited for this release, but the artwork needed a facelift... Edit: Had some folks ask, so here is the blurb I wrote for the back cover (for those interested in stuff like that): "Director Martin Scorsese returns to the mean streets of New York City with fierce wit in this biting black comedy released at the tail end of a prolific decade of filmmaking. A manic Nicolas Cage stars as Frank Pierce, an exhausted, burned out Manhattan medic haunted by the failures of his past. Seemingly no longer able to save those to which he’s dispatched, he spirals downward and becomes increasingly unhinged, patrolling the streets of the Big Apple with his rotating nightly partners (John Goodman, Ving Rhames, and Tom Sizemore). After another failed call, he befriends the equally troubled Mary (Patricia Arquette), an ex-junkie looking for purpose after her father’s sudden hospitalization, and begins to find a path to his own salvation. Moody and hallucinogenic, Bringing Out the Dead marked a reunion for Scorsese and screenwriter Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ) that saw the pair once again revisiting themes of death, faith, and redemption. Often overlooked in the 25 years since its release, this film has proven to be another of this American autuer’s many masterpieces." Last edited by Justanothercrow421; 07-01-2024 at 07:49 AM. |

I updated my cover art for Mr. Mom (1983) a short time ago. The cover art can be seen and downloaded from my earlier post, here for those interested. For some reason much of the text on the back portion was more grey than black. Well, I didn't want the text full black, but wasn't going for grey either. Anyway, it's much improved now. Always something.

I'm working on a Blu-ray for this movie at present. For the video that plays while on the TOP MENU I decided to use the below wallpaper.
![]() ![]() The title treatment looked a little rough so I replaced it. Before and after pics shown below. ![]() Original title treatment... ![]() New title treatment... ![]() If possible I'd really like to include a pop out, John Wayne's right hand and rifle appearing above the title treatment. I did find the below. It uses the same source image. Unfortunately not all of the rifle is shown. ![]() ![]() Lifting the needed portion from the above I got most of the way there. So close, so close and yet so far. ![]() ![]() So if anyone happens to stumble upon the source image the above wallpaper uses please let me know! ![]() I'm also working up some cover art for this. Once completed I'll make the full size image available. See, I bet you thought this post would be completely off-topic. ![]() Last edited by AmishParadise; 07-03-2024 at 10:59 AM. |

He shoots, he scores! Figured I'd chime back in to call off the search. Looks like I don't need that source image after all, the one used for the wallpaper shown in my prior post. I purchased "El Dorado (1966)" on Blu-ray from Amazon a day or two ago. It's being delivered Friday. When checking on my order this morning I took a look at the product page and hit pay dirt. See below.
![]() Back portion of the cover art... ![]() (Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.) For my pop out I was missing the lower portion of John Wayne's rife. It seemed like a long shot, but I decided to go for it utilizing the above. It took quite a bit of tomfoolery in Photoshop, but in the end I made it work. Before and after pics shown below. ![]() Before: ![]() (Half the pop out completed using the wallpaper shown in my prior post.) After: ![]() (The final result once extracting the needed portion from the Blu-ray cover art, then integrating it into my target image.) And here's a pic of the TOP MENU for the Blu-ray I'm working on. The addition of the pop out effect is a nice touch I think. ![]() ![]() (Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.) For additional details and pics of the Blu-ray menus feel free to hit up my Doom9 forum post, here. Now back to our regularly scheduled program. ![]() Last edited by AmishParadise; 08-21-2024 at 03:09 AM. |
