I noticed on amazon that it states, "this product may not be shrink wrapped". Anybody ever seen that before?

I didn't notice that, but perhaps Amazon will start selling used Blu-rays as new and we will similar warnings such as "this product may have fingerprints and dried popcorn butter on disc".

Yeah, buying new blus on amazon will be like buying "new" games at gamestop.

I'd love to blind buy this movie, but I hate reading subtitles for an entire movie (unless its people just sitting and talking like Inglourious Basterds, otherwise it keeps me from seeing what is happening if its during big/action scenes), but I also find English dubbing of Chinese dailog a bit distracting. So I don't know what version I'd be happiest with.

How much dialogue is there?

So China pulled a Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions deal with Reds Cliff, huh?

Quite frankly, had the Wachowskis just entitled Reloaded/Revolutions, Matrix II: Part 1 and Part 2, those films probably wouldn't have received so much criticism. I know it'd be just a name change, but sometimes a name change can change perceptions. And doing so, might have separated out that story from the story told in the original film.

The 2 disc BluRay edition of Red Cliff is the only way to go.

I don't own it yet but, saw the entire movie and will get it eventually.

Since you've seen the longer cut, here's one thing they cut which I've been told is indicative of the how the rest of the movie is treated:

[Show spoiler]The action scene at the beginning of the movie has a sequence where one of the Generals rides into the village to rescue his lord's wife and child. The majority of the action sequence is cut, including all the action around the wife and her death. All that is shown is the General fighting later on with the sling over his back with no explanation that it is the baby.

That was one of my favorite scenes, particularly early on.

[Show spoiler]To my recollection of the theatrical version (which I did see in the theater) they do in fact show the baby being handed off but the death of the wife is implied and not shown.

Its actually not that bad. Some semi-major threads are cut but nothing that is actually important. My biggest complaint is how the tortoise battle hapens pretty early on in the theatrical cut and is heavily edited as a mere skirmish when it serves as a huge climactic battle that ends the first film and sets up the second...otherwise, its still pretty good.

Apparently just got my copy for free. There was apparently a technical error when the 3rd party seller shipped it which caused Amazon to assume that the seller no longer had it in stock. Got an email today saying that I received a rebate for it, although I got my copy in the mail over the weerkend.

Thought I should mention that when I received my copy, it was shrink wrapped. The description on Amazon stated that it might not be, but mine was.

Any other John Woo Blue Rays on the horizon? Preferably his Hong Kong films? Would love A Better Tomorrow on Blu Ray.

Anyone have a problem with part 1 on a PS3 Slim?

I was watching last night and right at the part where
[Show spoiler] Tony Leung's character gets knocked off his horse by the tiger, my disc started spinning really loud and it skipped to next scene where the viceroy gets the ceremonial sword.

I have not been able to play my copy of the 1st disc (from the International Cut 2-disc set) on my Pioneer BDP-51FD, updated to the latest firmware (v. 1.65).

The second disc takes longer than usual to load, with a weird pause where the screen stays black for a while, with no indication of activity whatsoever, but, eventually, it plays just fine.

I don't know if I've got a lemon or it's just some manufacturer vs. firmware conflict, but I guess it's the latter, for I've read other people having issues with it on their Oppo.
