I know. I never said it wasn't. But the 5th movie needs to be really violent as well. Rambo doesn't work with Expendables level of violence.

A bit late on going back to that now in my opinion, I would rather see the one man army action film again for this sequel.
Fair points and I see what you're saying, but maybe Sly wants to go back to the roots of the orignal First Blood formula to more accurately equip and reflect Rambo to his own age and to better connect the film on a lot more personal levels to the first film. I've said many times that I think Rambo (2008) was the perfect conclusion to the series and I stand by that, but as good as it is, it doesn't connect as a finisher in the same way that Rocky Balboa (2006) does to the orignal Rocky.

Which indecently makes the news of the Creed spin-off all the more horrible..

I 100% agree with this. That said, I thought the same thing when Rocky 6 was announced. To paraphrase the movie , everyone thought that it was a joke, but now no one's laughing. I think that he's earned the benefit of the doubt, though I'm still skeptical.

And yeah, Rambo 5!

Sylvester Stallone is done playing Rambo

Quote:
It’s been almost a decade since Sylvester Stallone successfully rebooted his career with Rocky Balboa, an unexpectedly poignant sixquel. That movie’s reasonable success counted as a veritable resurrection for Stallone after his Spy Kids 3 phase, and it led Stallone to kickstart his second-most-iconic movie franchise. 2008’s Rambo didn’t make Rocky Balboa dollars, but it made a decent argument for 60-something Stallone as an action star, and led into the Expendables trilogy that you forgot was a trilogy until this sentence.

Stallone is currently riding high on the success of Creed, the Rocky inheritor that has brought the actor some of his best reviews ever. But Creed’s success may have also, inadvertently, ushered in a new post-action phase of Stallone’s career. In a new interview with Variety, the 69-year-old star openly states that he will not return to play John Rambo. This is a turnaround from statements Stallone made almost exactly a year ago, when he was talking about playing the character in a fifth film titled Rambo: Last Blood. Says Stallone now: “The heart’s willing, but the body says, ‘Stay home!’ It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else.”

John Rambo originally appeared in First Blood, a relatively low-key action movie about a Vietnam veteran fighting nefarious cops in the Pacific Northwest. “Relatively,” that is, in comparison to Rambo: First Blood, Part 2, the bullet-spraying sequel that sent Rambo back to Vietnam to finally win the war. Then came Rambo III, mainly remembered today because everyone agrees the fourth Rambo was much better than the third Rambo. There is a Rambo TV series in development which would apparently focus on Rambo’s son. Stallone has nothing to do with that. He tells Variety: “I don’t want to cast aspersions but it’s delicate to try to replace a character with his son. I’ve seen the son of Flicka, the son of Tarzan, the son of King Kong. It’s a very difficult premise.” Dear god, to watch Thunderhead, Son of Flicka with Sylvester Stallone!

I agree with Stallone, he is too old to be running around as Rambo. The story is over, he was pushing it even back in 08.

What i am worried about is the future of Rambo he has said he is finish with it and it should stop there.
But Stallone will have no problem with a T.V series and someone else to play John Rambo, i don't want that to happen.

I could easily see a new Rambo film that portrays an aged version of the character that recalls First Blood, in the same way Rocky Balboa did. Just have Rambo living peacefully Stateside, then getting caught up in a domestic terrorist attack. He has to rely more on his stealth and traps w/o big guns. Until the end, when of course the villain finds out exactly who he's f***ing with.

maybe an aged version of his character who takes in a young and eager special operations soldier from a trouble background and helps him train for an important mission

Or maybe we can just leave it with the directors cut of John Rambo being the last one. I thought it ended the series perfectly. He finally came full circle and accepted who he was and what he had done. Rambo finally went home.

I am happy with that too but i can see Stallone saying go ahead with a younger actor and continue with a T.V series or movie which i don't want.

Great news. Now in 5 years or less they can do a First Blood remake where Rambo is a drifter Iraq war vet.

No way they were going to top the masterpiece of cinema that is Rambo (or John Rambo, or Rambo 4, or Rambo: First Blood pt.4).

I love Sly, but he changes his mind like the wind. He's saying right now that it's probably for the best that he doesn't do another one at his age, but he's changed his tune in the past. Hell, around the time that The Expendables III was leaked (then released), he momentarily changed his tune about about making Creed and then he changed his mind again.

As for carrying on with another actor... ehhh... it depends, really. I actually wouldn't mind a gritty, warts and all, prequel TV series of how young Rambo ended up the way he did, but that father and son idea is horrendous! Someone else said this on IMDb, but it didn't seem like Rambo really had much luck with women. Maybe he had some encounters with prostitutes in Nam', but other than that I don't see him settling down with an American woman and the son would have to be American, because isn't he supposed to be a Navy Seal?

Even though part 4 was a perfect ending for the series, I was really hoping for a fifth. But I figured a while back if he hadn't started the movie 4 or 5 years ago, it was never going to happen. He's breathing new life into the Rocky franchise and the Expendables is his new baby.

Hopefully he changes his mind and decides to go ahead and star in a fifth. If not, it was awesome while it lasted.

This. No really is no need for a 5th film. The only reason for it to be made would be to give people more super bloody death scenes. Not that I'm against that in action films but the Rambo franchise needs to end with part 4.

Also, as much as I've liked all the Rambo films nothing will ever be as epic as Colonel Trautman's speech. "To kill! PERIOD!!"

As much as I'd love to see more Rambo, Stallone is aging, not that older actors are bad, but it leaves a few options in my head. Being back stateside and accepting who/what he is, I can only see Rambo V going in a Gran Torino/Harry Brown/Death Wish sort of fashion. Rambo saves the neighborhood which I'd love to see but I'd hate to see it mocked on the Internet and by critics. That thought could only really lead to Rambo VI, going to jail and not taking sides with race inspired gangs, helping other loners, downing a corrupt prison system, or Rambo escaping to Mexico or Canada. And from there we could start over with Rambo vs the Cartel.
