Back in July, I pre-ordered the S1 set with a $25 gift card and store pick-up. Then, a week before release, I noticed the set was sitting on the shelf at my local store... so I took it to the customer service desk and asked if I could pick it up that day. Basically what I had to do was cancel the pre-order, buy it at full price ($79.99) and then come back the next day to get my gift card added and refund when their website reflected the lower price ($59.99). When all was said and done, I paid about $40 for the set... and I got it a week early. This time, I have a $50 gift card and I'm going to wait until Nov. 27th to see if they put S2 out early. That way, I can apply the gift card to the store purchase that day and then maybe come back later to get a price match if it lowers to $60 like the last set. ![]() Last edited by Maxwell Everett; 11-02-2012 at 08:59 PM. |

So I re-ordered, but added Dark Knight Rises to my order so the price came out pretty much the same in the end. |

StarTrek.com posted the Season Two Fathom Event Trailer:
http://www.startrek.com/article/firs...-event-trailer Nice healthy amount of grain in that new footage. I like it. Looks just like S1. Certain shots in the S2 trailer on the S1 set were quite heavily DNR'd: [Show spoiler]

didn't they change film stock and how they filmed it starting in season 3? i thought they went from a more glossy style to a matte style in season 3.

Many who use amazon.co.uk as an alternate source have purchased an all-region blu-ray player, with built-in PAL-to-NTSC converter. The expense is typically more than recouped with one box set purchase, such as Inspector Morse (DVD, not Blu-Ray). Amazon US price: $350. Amazon UK price: $48.10 delivered. All-region Blu-ray players with a built-in converter can be had for ~ $125. Last edited by Anamorph; 11-18-2012 at 06:38 AM. |

Unless there's an incredibly good price somewhere that won't last a few days, I think I'll give it a week or so before buying. By then we should know if there are any authoring gaffes on this similar to what happened with the surround mastering on some S1 episodes.

Just checked one of the special features and it plays at 29.97 hz which is the NTSC standard. The only times you need to worry about the PAL issue is if it is released in the UK by a smaller or UK/Europe-based company (who won't simultaneously be releasing a US version). Because they may just encode in PAL, but even then don't always. The only other time is if it is a European TV show, where it might be in 1080i50, a broadcast standard which most US players won't play. But with Paramount, Warner and Universal you generally don't have to worry, especially if they are releasing it simultaneously in Europe and the US. In short, you should be fine playing the UK set on any US player. Last edited by nametag; 11-18-2012 at 09:50 AM. |

I REALLY need this to drop by about $20. I haven't even gotten through Season One, which I recently loaned to a friend at college. Combine that with almost $200 worth of Black Friday week purchases, and I can't afford this right now
