I don't know. I was only speaking in general about whether it can be done or not, trying to address your "Could you even do PS4 with PS3" question.

Edit: Also, after trying to find where I read some of this, I think Helldrivers is the game that is supposed to support PS3 and PS4 users playing together. Found it again in this article, although I don't think this is the one I read originally.

Edit 2: Another one, with an interview with the Helldriver developer (still not the one I originally read though): http://gamingbolt.com/helldivers-int...pment-and-more

I was listening to a podcast - official Playstation one I think - and they had an interview with the Helldivers developers. Sounds like an awesome game and they did mention support for PS3/PS4 play.

This sound familiar. I'm remembering an article about how MS wanted to keep Live and their servers a secret and something about the pay wall as to why they adopted their walled garden approach. I would also figure devs wouldn't then allow PC/SONY cross play because they would fear of pissing off MS who was the market leader at the time.

To me there's simply no advantage of keeping ecosystems separate. A company may think "well he'll just buy our system if he wants to play with his friends" but in my case I simply wouldn't buy the game. This hurts the developers as well. They need to get out of the mindset that systems move games (they do, but I feel to a much smaller extent that they think). Games move systems. Imagine the buzz of a Bungie backed game proclaiming both a cross gen and cross platform party system. I guess the main drawback would be communication but if Bungie were to pull something off where they had their own speech system that accepted both Live and PSN the sales would follow and more devs would consider the approach. The game will sell regardless. Having it walled off just hurts the end product.

You are able to play PS3/PS4 cross-system on DC Universe Online.

I apologize... I see now you are talking PC to PS4.

But that's made by SONY. That's more or less expected. I believe FF14 will also allow PS3/4 but not PC with SONY. I could be mistaken though.

Since you could cross-play Portal 2 (a non-Sony game) on the PS3, PC and Mac, maybe if more Valve games start getting released on consoles and they continue to support that sort of thing, more developers will start supporting cross-play on them. Even if they did though, I still think it'll largely be based on the type of game because gaming with a mouse and keyboard is an advantage and they'd have to balance that out somehow. Epic supported a mouse and keyboard on the PS3 for UT3 and allowed PC mods to be used on the PS3 but said there were several issues to overcome in trying to allow cross-play on consoles and PCs so they didn't allow it. I don't recall their reasons at the moment though.

FF14 is open... or I should say that the PS3/PS4/PC are open systems. Because of this, In FF14, all versions of the game (PC/PS3/PS4) can play together.

Square hosts the servers for this game too. Future MMO could be cross platform like FF14 too if configured correctly by the developer.

Fair point. You're right -I was focusing on how you called people who choose their gaming console primarily on the ability to play with their friends "sheep" and that we should all "screw what our friends have".

Said that way it does sound much better.

I left out the "influencing" part for reasons I figured would be obvious, but I will clarify I guess. While I have the disposable income to owner multiple consoles, I chose not to (for lack of time) - many of my friends have much more limited budgets and don't have that luxury. Some have adopted one or the other current gen, some have both, some stuck with last gen PS3s or 360s for now. The kind of influence you suggest is easier said than done as each system has pros and cons. (Not to mention that the spiderweb of friends doesn't just mean pull your friends from one to the other - it means those friends either cutting ties or having to do even more influencing, and so on, and so on...)

I don't take issue with trying to sway people to one console - I completely agree with that. I just take issue with how you seem to broad brush it like everyone's situation is the same and valuing friends is equivalent to being a sheep.

I think the issue is in something like this, the console companies don't care if it hurts the devs and they don't see it adding value to them.

Yeah, what I meant was that even SOE doing DCUO, they still didn't mix PC and PS (and they have more ability than anyone else has). To me that indicates either there is still a substantial technical issue behind the scenes or that something else is preventing it (like mouse/keyboard vs controller or certifying builds quickly).

All I meant was that even when you take out the MS vs Sony part, it still seems to have some sort of blocking issue.

So does that mean right now PC/PS3/PS4 players are all mixing within the exact same server?

Wow. I didn't realize that. If that's the case, Square would be the only one doing it - though it would mean that it's not a 100% blocking technical issue behind the scenes.

Correct. All FF14 clients (PC/PS3/PS4) can play together in one world/realm regardless of the system that they are playing on.

I believe FF11 also allowed PC & PS3 players to play together.

Any future mmo should be able to do a PC/PS4 cross platform server without any issue, but there is no way one would see xbox players join in on the fun since MSN's LIVE is a closed system that will not allow other networks to access it.

In the past, there has been a few pc games that allow ps3 players to join in on the fun. A few FSP games have done this, but this practice was stopped due to the pc players have an advantage due to the mouse.

Each Location in Destiny About “the Size of Halo: Reach,” Over 500 People Working on the Title

Bungie software engineer Christian Diefenbach sheds some light on how big of a world Destiny will offer.

In an interview with Brazilian website Jogos via OXM, Diefenbach explains that each location the game is set in is ”more or less the size of Halo: Reach”.

Diefenbach also points out that Destiny offers two perspectives. You will have a first person point of view during fights, but a third person perspective while exploring and meeting with other players to go on missions.

Lastly, Bungie’s engineer explains that Destiny has over 500 people are contributing to Destiny, whereas only 130 worked on the original Halo.

Bungie will release a beta with special rewards for Destiny this summer. You can newly released screens of the title through here.

They teased that the collectors edition would be announced this week, but I guess they pushed back the announcement.

Ugh. I hope that isn't a forced 1st and 3rd perspective and you can choose 3rd in combat.

I can't stand first person shooters but love 3rd person like uncharted, warframe, etc.. really excited about destiny that could end up turning me off. Still gonna give it a try even if it is.

Would be nice if it was like the Elder Scrolls games where you could switch between 1st and 3rd person view. From what I've read, and what is mentioned above, all combat on foot will be in FPS but vehicles 3rd person. When players are in the Last City or hubs we'll switch to 3rd person.

Has a CE been announced or is that just wishful thinking as of now?
