As the temporary owner of both discs, I can confirm that the Target version is definitely the new edition. Despite featuring the same menu, the logos and other screens before the menu and after hitting "Play" are all different (new disc has the Fox Home logo that looks like the true 20th Century Fox logo until it turns to reveal "Home Entertainment" on the side, the old disc has the one with the violin hum and then the Blu-ray logo swooshing in around a static, non-animated logo).
More importantly, watching a snippet of each feature presentation back-to-back, the difference is really, really apparent. I had recalled the old disc looking pretty good, but the new one blows it out of the water. I watched a section of the new disc first, and it's fair to say that Home Alone is not an eye-popping movie. It has a naturalistic look and slightly soft focus. Yet, watching the old disc afterward, having seen the overwhelmingly natural appearance of the new disc, the old disc looked bad. The grain, which is so beautiful on the new disc, turns into more of a faint murky film on the picture, and colors seemed distorted (especially skintones), with a tinge of blue in the whites. There was also a hint of sharpening -- the non-diffused whites look brighter because the old transfer is harsher. Home Alone 2 is the same disc as before. Really stinks that Home alone 2 is the same disc. Nothing upgraded at all?

I did store pick-up on the Target set with the hat. Despite not seeing any sets on the floor they had one for me at guest services. FWIW, I went around 11:30 am yesterday and they were still stocking movies, so it's possible they hadn't gotten to the rest of them.

I also pre-ordered Jim Carrey's Grinch remaster that's coming out next week, even though I just bought the first film last year. |

![]() Hmm, interesting...I hadn't heard that there was a remaster of The Grinch coming out although that film is so inherently gauzy-looking, I'm not sure what else could really be done to improve upon the image. Do you have a link you could provide for this? EDIT: Never mind, I found it! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...=ATVPDKIKX0DER |

Picked up the Target 2-fer today and did a couple spot checks on Home Alone. Wow! There is NO comparison between this and the former; the 25th Anniversary wins hands down. The start of Chapter 14, the establishing shot outside of Santa's workshop, is what sealed the deal for me. There's a noticeable uptick in detail and color in that scene especially. This is a fantastic looking transfer.
