I love The Irishman, and the scene doesn't really bother me. It functions well enough.

Doesn't change the fact that it's supposed to be representative of de Niro when he was this age:

Appears to be NBD.

Robert De Niro incurred a quadriceps muscle injury while at his on-location home in Oklahoma. A rep for the two-time Oscar winning actor provided the details this morning. De Niro is receiving medical treatment back home in NY, and the accident will not impact filming of the Apple Original Martin Scorsese directed movie. De Niro isn’t scheduled to shoot again for another three weeks.

“While at his on-location home in Oklahoma for the filming of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Robert De Niro injured his quadriceps muscle which will be treated medically in New York. This will not affect production as he was not scheduled to film again for another three weeks,” said a rep for De Niro this morning.

I never noticed it. I took it as him being slow and methodical not an extension of his age. I didn’t expect Frank Sherran to run in there like Johnny Boy. Even the Crazy Joe Gallo hit he moved methodically.

That might just be me.

I don't want to be that guy that harps on this one moment in an otherwise brilliant film, but de Niro holds his shoulders, lumbers around, barely keeps his balance, and shuffles like an old man.

My favorite part of conversations about The Irishman is when people tell Martin Scorsese how to direct.

I love arguments by authority.

They're always so persuasive.

I wonder if Scorsese was just uncomfortable with the implications of doing a body double and head replacement though - do you start using it every time De Niro moves? (I agree it should've been done that way but I figure he was grappling with exactly how technology gets used and he was prepared to sacrifice realism for still letting De Niro act the character in a pivotal moment)

While DeNiro did move slowly in his scenes in the Irishman, it really didn't bother me as much as it bothered others. Maybe they could have used a body double for some scenes, but overall, it wasn't as bad as some made it seem.

So eager for this movie, especially with all the great casting. But what else do you expect in a Scorsese flick?

Has anyone read the book? Wondering how easy of a read it is.

I read the book. I seem to be the only one that wasn’t a fan. I thought it was very easy read. My issue was, I wanted the author to go deeper and be more in depth and wordy. It felt too quick.
