I was really torn on this release and 'Coraline' about whether to get the standard or steelbook but went with standard. I'm not a huge fan of the art on 'Carrie' but I might double dip for 'Coraline'. What a month for Shout 4K releases though, really ending 2022 with a bang.

I was referring to the discs due to the terrible QC issues over at Shout.

Got my copy today. No case gunk, UHD disc looks good, but a few mild scratches on the Blu feature disc and more noticeable ones on the special features one. Guess with the absurd hoops Shout makes people go through for replacement copies (instead of, you know, MAKING SURE THEY DON'T GO OUT SCRATCHED IN THE FIRST PLACE), I'm shit out of luck.

RUNNING to my local shop after work to pick this up lol.

Carrie is one of my favourite horror films of all time and one of the earliest ones I remember seeing. This and a few others were the movies that really got me into the horror genre so it holds a special place for me.

Also lovin' that OG artwork on the cover. It's gonna look so good in a black case too.

Well I got good news and bad news, there's no dents on my steelbook, there's only some light scratches on the back, but not noticeable at all. It blends in with the artwork, it's an awesome looking steelbook with spot gloss especially the back. Bad news is my Blu-ray disc has large circular scratches on the edge, so I'm not sure how that will have effect on playability. The 4K disc and special features discs are scratch-less though.

They contract the replication jobs out - QC'ing the process is not part of the contract. Even if they could fly down to Mexico to wag a finger in someone's face at the plant, I don't think the bean counters would approve such expenditures. Anything that cuts into profits is a no-no.

Somehow got a mint copy despite the shrink wrapping and holidays. Highlander and Pearl slips however didn't fair too well

Love Carrie but it'll probably have to wait until after the holidays.

No it's not. Stop looking for an argument. You're a newbie around here and 90% of your posts are confrontational. Not a good look

Doesn't "bean counter" refer to accountants/CEOs/CFOs etc. who are only interested in money/profits? I mean, it's a pretty accurate statement in reference to Shout Factory. Slightly derogatory lol but racist??? Not even close.

I took that post as the kind of trolling where it's supposed to be funny. Like he doesn't actually think it's racist but thought it would be funny to performatively call it out as if he'd said something else that started with bean in reference to mexicans. Your guess is as good as mine whether his intent was for the target to get mad or understand that he was trying to be funny though.

Yes, there's nothing racist at all about that post. The only person bringing any racism to this thread is the one highlighting the words Mexico and bean counters, trying to cause an issue that only exists in their own mind.

It was clearly meant in reference to SF. That's how I read it.

"Even if they ["they" being SF employees] could fly down to Mexico to wag a finger in someone's face at the plant, I don't think the bean counters ["bean counters" being the execs at SF] would approve such expenditures ["expenditures" being the cost of flying SF employees down to Mexico]."

I didn't read it as a slight against Mexicans at all. Is Mexico even known for beans? LOL.

Right, that's what I think he was highlighting, I just think he was trolling instead of actually believing that. It seemed like such transparent trolling I figured it was supposed to be funny. But maybe he's just an idiot, who knows. Regardless, what a thread derailment.

I got my copy today! And unfortunately thanks to SF's apparent contract with the scratch factory I need to watch it tonight! My copy of Black Christmas was fine, here's hoping this one is too.

LOL, out of curiosity I even searched for Cinema84's previous use of the phrase "Bean counter" and the poster in question has used it multiple times to refer to different companies (which have nothing to do with Mexico) so no, obviously he wasn't making a racist joke or anything like that. I would have never even considered it, had someone not tried to make a big deal out of an issue that never existed in the first place. Leave this type of noise and overreactions/witch-hunting for social media sites so I don't have to read this ignorance on this forum.

Yes. They originated in Mexico and Peru 7,000 years ago. But yeah, I re-read the post and it's clear that "bean counters" was not meant as a racist.
