I am not familiar with the specific set-ups of your particular receiver. But, Denons generally allow you to set separate channel trim levels for each surround mode. So, you might try using Direct for lossless and Standard for DD and DTS. But, I must admit, I don't know whether using Direct would have other, undesired consequences. But, I think that's about the only way to get different center channel levels without manually adjusting them whenever change sources.

Have you set your speakers to small? There's no LFE channel on a 2.0 source. The sub is activated by bass management.

yep, set the speakers to small. and there was an option to use LFE or LFE +main, so maybe the LEF +main will do it, havent tried that yet. I'll experiment with the direct mode and read the manual again for the 20th time

LFE + MAIN only applies when speakers are set to LARGE. Then, bass below the crossover gets sent to both the speakers and the sub. When speakers are set to SMALL, bass below the crossover will go to the sub - and only to the sub. But, of course, it can't hurt to try that setting.

(EDIT: the chart on p62 of the AVR591 manual says when set to Direct (2 ch), the sub is only active when the Subwoofer Mode is set to LFE + Main. However, with all other surround modes, there's no such limitation. For all other modes, the sub should be activated by genuine LFE or by bass management.)

If you've set the speakers to SMALL, you shouldn't need to do anything else to get low frequencies routed to the sub. Try setting the crossover as high as possible as a test. Also, what does the Denon front panel display show about the output channels? I think it should show L/R/SW.

Also, does your sub work normally with 5.1 source material?

Amper, when you listen to Stereo music, which Audio mode do you select?
Does your Denon receiver allow you to have the sub activated with any 2-channel stereo music? ...And regardless if your Mains are Small or Large?

What is the channel level of your Sub when using 2-channel audio modes?
Check it out and if it's Off, just turn it On by raising the Sub channel level.
...And that with "Pure Direct" and "Direct" audio modes. ...As well "Stereo".

Default HDMI Issues - No Sound

I currently own the Denon 3808ci and have lost audio only in two HDMI ports. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I found in another forum (either HTGuide or AVS) where a guy with a Marantz has the same issue.

Any suggestions or thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe try restoring it to factory settings (but make sure you know how to get your custom settings back) sounds like what Onkyo was going through with some of their amps.

Good suggestion.

I may have to try that one day.

Yeah, you can try first to unplug your receiver from the wall outlet, then wait for 30 seconds or so before plugging it back.

And if it still doesn't work, then do the "Reset".

Just became a proud owner of a Denon 3311CI and am LOVING IT! I was deciding between the Denon and an Onkyo offering. Though I had a stereo denon receiver in the 90's and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would give them another shot. Boy am I sure happy I did, this thing rocks! ...and amazing awesome feature set too...

The beautiful Denon 4810CI is listed as a "next generation 9.3 receiver" - does anyone else find it odd that it has 6 composite/S-video with rca audio inputs versus only 5 HDMI inputs? Add the dedicated phono and CD inputs and you have 8 RCA audio inputs altogether.

Hardly next generation. They should free up some room behind there and offer perhaps TWO of the composite/S-video/RCA inputs along with the dedicated Phono/CD inputs. Really, how many people have that much stuff to hook up that wouldn't still be okay with 2 of those inputs?

I am the guilty one. Denon makes those receivers for me.

Between my two S-VHS players, 2 laser disc players, several DVD players and recorders, 2 cassette players, one CD recorder, one 200 mega CD changer, etc. etc, etc., I need a couple of hundred composite inputs.

I fully agree with you. But Denon doesn't want to lose customers like Big Daddy!

Default Which Denon do you suggest?

I am planning on running polk tsi400's and a polk cs20 with either a Denon avr1611 or 1911. The only difference in features (at least ones that will be of use to me) are the power ratings. Do you think I wil hear enough of a difference to justify paying $200 more for the avr1911? The speakers are 125 rms and 200 peak. Will either of these be good choices for this set up?

Default No Sound... Denon AVR-1909 or Windows 7 problem?

I want to pull my hair out with my HTPC. I started with Win 7 Ult 64 Bit but usually would not get sound when plugged in to my Denon AVR-1909. Using a ASUS M2A-VM HDMI motherboard (if anyone is curious), I used the included HDMI PCI Express card to get HDMI Audio and Video but for the life of me I couldn't get audio, just video.

(all mobo cables, HDMI audio, etc. are plugged in where they need to, etc.)

I went through the now needlessly over-complicated [in Win 7] sound settings and volume control panel (as well as each media player's volume.. Youtube, VLC, Winamp, etc.) and tried everything!

So, after reading many forums with similar problems (and having no "Record what you hear" in my usual audio editing programs), I attributed it to Win 7 still working out some kinks. So, I got a Diamond 7.1 sound card with Optical Out... no sound still AND another device to create more nuisance variables in sound options.

Switch to XP MCE and no problems with sound at all with the same hookups.

I miss Win 7's MCE because it is more customizable for media paths and has the neat Netflix interface that XP MCE lacks. SOOOO.. anyone know if Win 7 has some HDCP or DRM over sensitive glitch that blocks even Windows from outputting sound?

My Setup:

TV: Samsung LED 7000 series
BD Player: Oppo BDP83
Receiver: Denon AVR-1909

Could it be my Denon AVR-1909 that is blocking the audio input (HDMI, Optical or otherwise?) for any reason? Why only in Win 7 and not XP MCE?

I have the same receiver and have not had this issue. I would definitely reset it as these other guys have mentioned.
