Yeah, the 663 does. I was actually asking if I had the sub hooked up right. I just didnt know if there was a "right way" and a "wrong way" to hook it up. I am asking not about where it goes to the reciever, but where to plug it up to the HD-10 IE do I need this Y adapter or the rca cables?

Default Acoustic Audio RW Sub 10 vs Energy ESW-8

Anyone have experience with the Energy ESW-8 and the Acoustic Audio subs? I'm upgrading my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 computer speaker system with a home audio 2.1 setup. The Acoustic Research RW Sub 10 looks like it would be a good match for the price. But I can also pick up the Energy ESW-8 sub for under $100 locally from www.audioadvisor.com here in GR, MI (they have some demo and refurbished ones available, which I'm not worried about since I don't pay shipping). Any sense here on which would be the better performer in overall quality for music (1st) and gaming (2nd)? I don't do HT with the computer. And what about build quality of the two?

The sub would be hooked to an old Denon PMA-500V integrated amp with Cambridge Soundwork S30 bookshelf speakers. The computer has an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card, which has great 24-bit/192kHz, 100 DB S/N sound for stereo (better than the Creative Audigy crap).

I'll admit. I'm drawn to chance the Acoustic Audio because of the 10" woofer and additional wattage, but know that Energy has a good long term reputation.

Use the y adapter and a quality sub cable, I wouldn't use RCA cables personally.

cel4145, yes, energy has a good reputation on all speakers and subs, personally my opinion on 8" subs is, if your gonna use them, use 2 of them. I was gonna get the 10" energy sub you are looking at but got the AA sub and I am happier then I expected.

Erict, I too was extremely concerned getting the AA sub, and the first 2 days was in limbo cause I wasn't used to this type of bass, my old sony was so boomy I wasn't familiar with a more accurate and tight sound of the AA sub. Since then I would recommend this sub to anyone. for the money, it has to be the best bang for the buck. I really want to get a 2nd one, but that is gonna have to wait a little while.

Sorry buddy, isn't it always raining up there, I have been to minnesotta before (Winona) and it was off and on rain in July... at least I left the heat of SoCal for a few weeks.

Describe this, callas, this is interesting - this comparison between your Sony and this AA.

I recieved my RW-Sub 10, 10", Black, Down Firing subwoofer. I am hooking my subwoofer up. I ran audyssey and it had my subwoofer at -5.0db. Do I need to turn the volume up or down on the subwoofer and run audyssey again. What am I shooting for?

It is also setting my subwoofer distance at 23 feet, when the actual distance is 10 feet.

NOTE: this is my first time ever hooking up a subwoofer

OK, here is what I noticed, lets take the tunnel scene in Live free or die hard, when the tow truck runs into the concrete piller, the sony hit but was boomy, it would hit and there was no punch... it didnt sound the way a truck would hit a concrete pillar. you would in real life expect to hear a loud and powerful impact and then shattering glass and pieces falling, breaking, bending, crunching, which is what I get with the AA sub. its a powerful smack and then you hear the other speakers clearly express the sound of the rest of the accident. in this scene the bass wouldn't clear enough with the sony, and you would still get the muddling of bass into the rest of the action sequence. IMO the details of the audio sequence were missing due to the bass lingering.

Now take the scene with the car tumbling in the air at justin long and bruce willis and it goes to that really deep bass, the sony would sound like it was struggle it sounded like it was rattling and boomy, it wasn't tight, which I get a lot better with the AA sub. Same with the scene in Transformers when jazz uses his ion cannon to do the cart wheel over that girl when the missles are coming at him.

On the back of the subwoofer, turn the volume to 50% point (middle) and turn the crossover all the way up to its maximum point. The crossover is set in the receiver's menu. You can adjust the volume a little, but don't increase it more than the 75% point.

Run the calibration program again. It doesn't matter what the settings are as long the levels of all the speakers are the same. If Audyssey does not measure the distances correctly, use a measuring tape.

Subwoofer placement in the room is the most important factor in getting good bass sound. You need to be patient and experiment with its position. You can start by putting it in a corner at least a couple of feet away from the walls. After you are completely satisfied with its position, run the calibration program again.

I have a sub cable plugged directly into the sub, what would the Y adapter be used for?

the one sub is great, I would like to have a second just because I like bass, and I think a 6.2 would be awesome.

my sub cable has a single male end on both ends, there for I needed an adapter to plug into the white and red inputs on the back of the sub, it should help give you added db's.... I am sure big daddy could expalin what I am trying to say better...

I explained that in my post #242. I guess you didn't read it.

You can insert the sub cable to the left input on the back of the subwoofer. However, if you use a Y adapter (2 male, 1 female) and connect the sub cable to both left and right inputs on the back of the subwoofer, you will get an increase of up to 6 db's of bass sound on this model.
