One thing that i8910 Omnia HD confirmed is that OLED has crappy performance outside / in sunlight. I prefer standard TFT LCD than OLED in most situations as the power consumption and colors are doable conventionally just with more engineering skill required (or a beefier battery)

I wish they would add QWERTY to that X3, as well as xenon flash.

OLED is worse and useless in sunlight. Some of the others you can squint at. My n97 is viewable in direct sunlight, t hough I don't make a habit of watching movies out there.

white please

specs are awesome..only thing they could have added to make it better was oled.
I think part of the criticism that was levelled at the outgoing CEO of SE was not taking the US seriously as a market to sell mobiles so I expect a change of policy in that regard. Lots of people at Sony felt they have concentrated far too much on the European market to their detriment as it is the most competitive in the world.

OLED could well be in, XPERIA is the flagship line after all...

One thing to note about the Xperia 3 is that Sony are porting their Walkman and Cybershot software to Android, it could potentially pave the way for Android powered Cameras and Walkmans which would definitely set them apart from the competition.

Hopefully the browser on this thing is good, I have used the Satio, and while it is a massive improvement over previous iterations, the latest NetFront 3.5 browser still needs a lot of work to be competing against the likes of webOS and Safari Mobile. Maybe Firefox Mobile will be available on the Android App store sooner rather than later.

Is Android really that versatile that it can be incorporated to control multiple devices? Like Sony's Alpha series cameras or their Cybershots? Are they going to aim for an all in one device phone/internet tablet/camera?

N97 has the best S60 browser, bar none. Omnia HD has way more power and double the RAM and it's browser lacks the kinetic/flick scrolling and others.

If Opera Mini 5 fixes some things, they could challenge it, but otherwise Nokia did a really good job optimizing the default browser, at least wrt other s60 implementations.

yeah i've got an android phone right now and the browser is near unusable. its pretty bad. hopefully opera and mozilla get on the ball soon in those respects

Speaking of android, do you know anything about the HTC Hero and/or Samsung InstinctQ?

I'm stuck with Sprint, and thinking of getting a new phone in the next few months. I have one of the original Instincts, and it's been having issues, but Sprint seems willing to replace it, but I might hold off a bit until newer phones are out.

I think the Hero comes out in Oct, and the rumor is that the InstinctQ will follow exactly 1 month later.

the hero will be a nice phone if you don't mind not having a hardware keyboard. if you need a real keyboard..go with the InstinctQ.

both should be excellent phones tho

i actually like the touch screen on this, it was impossible to use the screen on the voyager for txt messaging, but i like that it highlights the letter on the keyboard so you know what you are pressing before it shos up on screen

any good tips on how to make better use of the phone that i might not know, or any really good apps i should check out?
I think my wife and I were the only ones who got functional 1st gen Storm phones. We have no issues with ours, no slowdowns/clocking, and we don't have to do a regular battery pull. I actually love my Storm. I use it for everything including posting here on blu-ray.com. The one complaint I had initially was the slow camera, but that was fixed with a FW update not too long ago. Google maps works nicely, the Calendar I use all day long for work and personal entries and I love that I can dial into a meeting straight from the calendar pop-up reminder. However, best of all over other PDA-phones that I've owned (especially windows CE based ones), the phone does not feel like a secondary function. Blackberrys are as much a phone as they are anything else.

Anyway, I like the touch "click" screen as well. It took a whole 30 min. for my wife and I to get used to it. Also Suretype is actually better I believe once you spend the 15-20 min. to get used to it. I recommend trying it. I can type about 30wpm with Suretype. As for the battery drain issue, you can try adjusting the screen brightness down to 10. It is not that much dimmer and still visible in daylight, but it increases battery life big time! I was going through one full charge daily, but after adjusting the screen brightness down I can usually go 2 days before a recharge.

No offense taken. But I wasn't exactly recommending a Storm or proclaiming it is better than anything else. I was adding my experience with it considering a question was asked. Knowing the Storm's track record it is not something I would recommend, and in fact I've been asked more than once and have told people to get something else. I did, after all, acknowledge that we probably had the only 2 working units. Where that qualifies as not knowing any better is beyond me.

I've had a cellphone since the day they came out, but I'm a total noob with today's phones. Way too many freagin' options. I have no idea how to use most of the features.

Bought my very first iPhone last week! Only an 8gb 3G, but that's ok as I don't download videos or music. My phone is actually for phone calls! LOL!

Everyone has an opinion. If my Storm didn't work or was slow I'd have taken it back. Feel bad all you want, my Storm is nothing like what's been reported on web forums and the like. If it works, it works. I don't listen to what other people have to say about it.

Ok, so Sprint announced the cost of the Instinct HD, and it's $249 ($349 - $100 MiR, requires 2 year plan).

Seems a bit pricey for a phone that doesn't really add much over the 2nd model Instinct, which can be had for something like $49 (after MiR and 2-year plan).

The screen is certainly not HD (it's 480 x 320), so the HD comes from the HD output on the phone, which seems pointless, because the cameras can only be so good. So selling an HD phone is almost as dumb as selling HD sunglasses.

Not that I care, because I didn't plan on getting one... but it makes me worry about what the InstinctQ will cost.
