Thanks, found it. Agree, not a demo disc but the UHD BD was fairly cheap so replaced the BD with it.

Did not find.

If interested you could wade thru AWS pages here to find some pricing information on storage cost. Not sure if they list the cost for a CDN operation.

Actually, that kinda does answer my question...at least as far as Disney is concerned. We now know how much Disney lost on their "direct to consumer" division in 2020. Combining that with what Anthony P posted re: Netflix that's two SVODs whose expenses exceed their revenue. With Disney, however, I suspect some of their shortfall was due to one time start-up costs.

Anyway, thanks for doing the heavy lifting and finding this information.

I found out relatively young that I should not have children. Two of my three siblings died before they were 60 and one at the age of just 38. My gene pool is more of a puddle, it seems.

Clearly Disney is not trying to prop up their streaming service like AT&T.

Average Viewer Uses Seven Streaming Services, NPD Finds

Quote:
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.—As the number of streaming services continues to grow, consumers are embracing their options by increasing the average number of streamers they watch, according to a new study from NPD Group.

NPD’s TV Switching Study tracks the changes in the ways U.S. consumers view and buy digital content. In its most recent edition of the study, NPD found that the average consumer uses seven subscription (SVODs) and free streaming services, up from five as of April of this year.

Report: Disney+(Hulu) to Catch Netflix by 2022 in Revenue

Quote:
Since the beginning of subscription streaming video, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu have shadowed market pioneer Netflix from afar. New data from eMarketer suggests upstart Disney+ (with Hulu) will significantly bridge Netflix’s lead in the next 24 months.

Following a strong launch in November 2019, Disney+ is on track to surpass $4 billion in U.S. subscription revenue by 2022. In its first full year, Disney+ has grown rapidly, spurred by original content and stay-at-home government pandemic orders. In fact, the service will help Disney reach Netflix’s share of the market by 2022.

Netflix ended its most-recent fiscal period with 195 million subscribers worldwide. Disney+ had 86.8 million subs through Dec. 2; 125.6 million when including Hulu.

Compared to the 11.1 Billion in box office revenue Disney made in 2019. Those numbers show why Disney is not going the PVOD route on their tentpoles.

It's $13.2 billion, not $11.1 billion:

Yes, if you add in the Fox releases that is correct. Either way it's a whole lot more than $4 Billion in revenue. Even if you assume that Disney only makes half that BO total in profit that is still around $6 Billion depending on which number you use. And if you really want to be pessimistic, assume they only profit $4 Billion off of that. It is still more profit than they'll see from streaming.

All of which is to say I still don't see the theatrical experience going anywhere once the Covid crisis passes based on those numbers.

This was one of the placards put up by Disney's CFO in her part of the Investor Day presentation. The numbers in the article are for 2022.

Assuming they raise the price to $8/month and they hit the 350 million goal that would be $2.8 billion in revenue. But for fun let's assume that every single subscriber of that 350 million signs up for the Hulu package subscription which runs $13/month. Not at all likely but it will still make my point for me. That would be $4.55 billion in revenue.

But we've come this far so let's go one step further. Let's assume they raise the price to $15/month and actually hit 400 million subscribers. Not at all likely but I'll give you the best case scenario. That gives them a whopping $6 billion in revenue.

As an investor would you rather see a $6 billion return on investment or a $13 billion ROI?

While OTT pay TV numbers look good they are still a small part of the global traditional pay TV revenue.

And Netflix is raising my monthly prices again. The American way, give less (data rates) and charge more. After more than 13 years of disc by mail and streaming with them I may look for a streaming partner or drop the streaming with them altogether.

You forgot. It isn't $8 a year. It's $8 a MONTH. So you have to multiple the $2.8 billion times 12.

$33.6 Billion
