Destiny Artifacts To Receive Dramatic Overhaul

Quote:
During our recent visit to Bungie for our cover story on Destiny: Rise of Iron, the development team shared a number of new additions to the game. While the focus for this expansion is on new content rather than reinventing game systems, one particular new feature really stood out. Artifacts are getting a major retrofit.

While players can still use and infuse older artifacts, Rise of Iron introduces eight brand new artifacts that are class agnostic, and able to be freely used with any class and subclass. Each of the new artifacts connects to a particular member of the deceased Iron Lords, such as Felwinter, Jolder, or Skorri.

A new character named Tyra Karn is the centerpiece for Guardians looking to acquire the new Iron Lord artifacts. She sends players out into the Plaguelands to commit mighty deeds in memory of the Iron Lords – a task that should be pretty straightforward for anyone who engages with the new content. Upon completing that task, you gain an item called the Iron Lords’ Legacy, which in turn can be used to acquire one of three artifacts Tyra has on offer in any given week. Over the course of eight weeks or more of play, you should be able to acquire all eight new artifacts.

Each of these artifacts has a game-changing ability attached to it. One offers the option to melee enemy units and gain their allegiance for a short time. A second artifact eliminates your super, but gives you two grenades, two melees, and an increase in all your stats. Each of the artifacts can be combined with exotic weapons and armor, as well as subclasses, to create new and interesting build options. Moreover, every one of the new artifacts is meant to evoke the character of the Iron Lord for which it is named. For instance, Jolder tended to charge headlong into danger, so her artifact eliminates the sprint recharge delay.

In our time playing, the artifacts were enjoyable to try out, and the idea of an ongoing week-to-week collection experience should lend some legs to the expansion, and lead to community conversation in the early weeks after release as players each start experimenting with their artifact of choice.

We set aside a dedicated two-page examination of artifacts in our Rise of Iron cover story, including in-depth descriptions of each power, and the story idea that connects to each Iron Lord. We also have exclusive images of each of the Iron Lord sigils and artifacts to check out. If you'd like to check those details out right away, click here to switch your print subscription to digital, or to create a new subscription to the digital edition, click here.

New Progression Details Emerge For Destiny: Rise Of Iron

Quote:
We dedicated 16 pages of our most recent issue of Game Informer to an in-depth look at Destiny: Rise of Iron. Tons of new details are there to uncover from our three days of interviews, demos, and most importantly, our playtime with Rise of Iron. But if you’re a player who is just trying to figure out the nuts and bolts of how your guardian can progress beginning on September 20, we’ve got you covered right here.

Character level is staying at 40, but light values are now jumping from the current cap of 335 up to 385. That cap will be further increased to 400 when the hard mode version of the raid launches some weeks after Rise of Iron’s launch. New rare (blue), legendary (purple), and exotic (gold) gear help players ascend through those new tiers, and the system as we observed it for item drops appears to be very similar to what has been in the game for some time now.

A new Rise of Iron Record Book now tracks your progress through the entirety of the expansion, echoing similar systems that were used for last year’s SRL event, or the more recent Moments of Triumph for Year 2. This record book has discrete tasks to be completed throughout the Rise of Iron content, and completing any task adds to your overall percentage completion of the record book. Reach designated percentage completion points, and you gain new armor, emblems, and more.

In addition, Bungie shared that it is releasing a large number of new weapons and complete armor sets. New sets are on offer for the Iron Banner PvP event, the Iron Lords (obtained through the Record Book), Trials of Osiris, the Wrath of the Machine raid, and the new Archon’s Forge arena event, in addition to new options for all the factions. Bungie also introduced us to ornaments, a new aesthetic customization feature that allows players to enhance the geometry and appearance of individual armor pieces, as well as change the appearance of exotic weapons.

We also learned about a new collection experience for the newly redesigned artifacts, which is an entirely separate subject deserving of its own dedicated post.

On its highest level, Destiny: Rise of Iron doesn’t dramatically reinvent its progression systems, as was the case with The Taken King. During our time at Bungie, the message was clear; Rise of Iron is focused on delivering new content for players to explore, along with dramatically expanded options for letting players look and play the way they like.

For additional information on game progression, dozens of new screenshots, and all the other things we discovered in Rise of Iron, you can check out our complete cover story. Click here to switch your print subscription to digital, or to create a new subscription to the digital edition, click here.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is set for a release on September 20 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Bungie Reveals Destiny Plans After Rise Of Iron

Quote:
We just announced our cover story on Destiny: Rise of Iron, and this month’s magazine is the place to look to get the full scoop on the new expansion. However, in addition to extensive details about the latest expansion, we also spoke with Bungie about its plans for Destiny beyond September, and they shared some of what players can expect.

Fans of last year’s Halloween-themed event will be happy to hear that the Festival of the Lost is returning in October, along with new masks to chase and some other surprises.

Following that, Bungie has also revealed that we’ll see the return of the Sparrow Racing League in December, including tweaks to existing tracks along with new tracks inspired by Rise of Iron’s environments. But beyond the racing experience, Bungie is eager to expand the winter event into something larger. “When we talk about SRL coming back, it’ll probably be wrapped in a different style, not just focused around SRL,” says live team director Jerry Hook. “Because some of the stuff that we learned from our players around the Sparrow Racing League is that some people didn’t like racing. So, can you do something with the event that helps support those players a little bit differently? Absolutely.”

Bungie is choosing to be upfront and open about its release plans post-expansion. By most measures, that's a step forward for the studio, which has previously been tight-lipped about nearly all Destiny content except for the most immediate release. The Bungie developers I spoke with implied that's something the team wants to change moving forward, with a move toward more clear communication about subsequent content drops.

We talked extensively regarding that subject and the broader future of the Destiny franchise with both live team director Jerry Hook, as well as Bungie’s new CEO, Pete Parsons. You can read more of their comments in this month’s magazine cover story, available digitally right now. Click here to switch your print subscription to digital, or to create a new subscription to the digital edition, click here.

Thanks for posting all this info iScottie. Appreciate it.

That's a lot to take in.

Man, that Exotic Khvostov has pretty terrible stats all around. At least the way it's set up on the picture.

I'm diggin' the various Artifact abilities.

Looks like a lot of cool stuff gettin' added. Bring that $h!t on!

New 400 level cap is great for those that are getting this new expansion I give it two days after the hard mode is release for someone to hit that.

This game was fun but I'll wait for Destiny 2 before I'll jump back into the battle, as I'm done spending money on this first game.

From Reddit

Quote:
ebolaxb 270 points 4 hours ago*

Summary so far:

Max level of 385 - then 400 for HM Raid (Wrath of the Machine)

Sept. 23 raid launch date

8 new class-agnostic artifacts that allow for special buffs to characters

Memory of Radeghast: adds a new ability for sword heavy weapons to reflect projectiles, including ogre blasts and crucible rockets.

Memory of Perun: adds ability to highlight guardians with full super in yellow, and guardians with low health in red.

Memory of Jolder: removes sprint cooldown

Memory of Silmar: dramatically reduces any damage dealt by DoT effects (such as Thorn poison).

Memory of Felwinter: lose your super, but gain an extra grenade and melee, and boost to all stats.

Memory of Gheleon: gain detailed radar at all times, including when aiming a primary (grants precision radar and third eye).

Memory of Skorri: speeds super recharge for all nearby allies.

Memory of Timur: Melee an enemy for a chance to make them an ally for a short time.

Adding more cosmetic adjustments for armor AND weapons

The Iron Lord armor set will come from a Rise of Iron Record Book

IB reinvented, 4 new maps. No more tempered, less rep needed overall. No more rep bonuses from gear.

Radiant Treasures: Confirmed Microtransactions for Ornaments. Radiant Treasures seem to be the new version of Sterling Treasure. Obtainable on a weekly basis for completing goals and then also through Eververse. via /u/YendysWv

Bungie HINTS AT CUSTOM MATCHES, aka the feature "Our community has been clammoring for."

New Faction (NM, FWC, DO) armor sets, sparrows, ghost shells.

Thorn is getting a quest to obtain it, just like Gjallarhorn.

The Kvostov 7G-0X is a new exotic auto rifle with a fire mode selector. It can basically be a scout, pulse, Suros Regime, or bullet hose. Also acquired from a quest.

Sepiks prime is back as Sepiks Perfected . And The Summoning Pits will be the Abomination Heist .

Festival of Light returning in October

SRL Back in December

SRL/MoT type book to track progress of ROI

New Cruicible mode - "Supremacy" - kill enemies to make them drop a crest. Your team only scores if someone (you or a teammate) picks up that crest. Enemy team members can also pick up the crest to deny your score, but they won’t gain any points themselves.

"Archon's Forge" - basically new Court of Oryx. They have adjusted the summoned encounters to last longer --"around five minutes" and the drops used to summon the various possible difficulties come from Patrol. via /u/YendysWv

PS Exlusive Map - Finally, this year’s PlayStation exclusive map is Icarus, a solar-collection site on Mercury. The arena is the raised structure at the center of the much larger crater-like array. Its circular shape inevitably funnels into furious conflagrations at the center.

When Speaking on Exotics, "These Include the long- awaited arrival of Warlock exotic boots (finally!), a new sidearm reminiscent of the classic RoboCop gun, and a SIVA-themed pulse rifle that blossoms out a cloud of seeking energy for a successful precision kill."

every class item that has ever shown up in Destiny is returning to circulation with the exception of items from previous raids

Class Items can change color via shader

All Year Two weapons and armor can be infused to Rise Of Iron stats
There are quest lines after the main story missions leading up to the new strikes via /u/YendysWV

Skeleton Keys are rewards from completing strikes whether it be a nightfall, playlist or just chosen from the director and Strike Hoard chests are chest that appear at the end of any strike where you can use the Skeleton key to get a guaranteed piece of strike specific loot. via /u/Zxar99

So are you all disappointed in the new material, or in your reaction to the new material? Because it looks like it measures up well compared to TTK.

Same crap different pile. Not too sure about this one. They seriously need to inject something unique into this series. Just more stuff to get you addicted before they nerf it away and then gift it back you later.

blah blah blah.
