No offense but Star Wars fans are gonna have to get over it. This isn't Lucas's franchise anymore. Luxuries that were afforded under his ownership are gone now. Profits and stockholders dictate when these releases happen more than anything else. Profit>tradition.

Anyone else familar with the showbiz adage, "A rising tide lifts all boats"? Meaning a blockbuster draws people into the theater and amplifies the pool of ticket buyers? Look, for certain movies, people are going to show up regardless of already plopping down a ticket for another movie 3-4 weeks prior. Monsters Inc. and Harry Potter both killed at the box office, and they were only a week apart, if memory serves. Imagine if Disney attaches a final SW trailer to The Avengers 2. It's going to be a madhouse. Those two films would dominate all the way to the 4th of July weekend. It's not like people would suddenly stop going to see the Avengers, no more than people stopped going to see Harry Potter when Monsters Inc. debuted. People went to both, over and over again.

This had been speculated, and was the logical thing to do. Lucasfilm doesn't have time for it.

Ya, I know... Episodes 2 and 3 were promising though, from what I heard the 3D looked much better than Episode 1's

You are still talking about examples of major releases from separate studios. This is different. This is 2 tentpoles within weeks of each other from the same studio. Disney has to market and release both films. And with these two films they will want to flood all media and give each their due. You can't do it with both at the same time. One has to take priority of the media especially in the last month. So what do they do? Wait for Avengers to come out leaving only 1-2 weeks of heavy marketing for Star Wars? No studio would do that. No studio has done that. Then there is the stockholders.

Star Wars's rebirth and it being back and under new managment and being helmed by Abrams will be all things Disney will want to market. It will be a marketing powerhouse. There just isn't enough room for both Avengers 2 and Star Wars leading up to May. It isn't just about what happens after release and what goes on at the theaters. Its about the practicality of a major studio releasing two tentpoles of this magnitude within weeks of each other. Its impractical and the fact that Disney isn't forcing Abrams to commit to 2015 tells me they weren't set on the date.

Was that saying uttered before: BD, dvd, streaming, mobile devices, cable OTA, satellite OTA, etc etc?
Is so, then I would understand.
I would be amazed if Disney places these 2 huge franchise releases 3 weeks apart, from one another. Heck, I think 2 months would still be a little close!
I say we just start turning all this speculation into CA$H!! Place your bets folks on the day/month/year, even a parlay!

Star Wars and Avengers 2 will not be coming out within the same movie season. It makes absolutely no financial sense from the studio's perspective.

You mean like Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Dick Tracy? 8 days separated those films. Don't get me started, I'll go find you more. That's just off the top of my head.

You are not seriously comparing Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Dick Tracy to Avengers and Star Wars!

You still don't get it. There is no franchise that has been brought back from the dead like Star Wars. Think of the marketing for The Phantom Menace. Remember that insanity. That is the level we are going to see from Star Wars 7. Now imagine Disney pitting that against another one of their major tentpoles like Avengers 2. Ain't gonna happen. Even if we take profits out of the argument it would still be a logistical nightmare.

And Episode I's 3D was already good-lookin'. I knew Disney was gonna screw stuff up for the fans. Before the 3D release, the only SW I was able to see in theaters was Revenge of the Sith. 3 times. What George was doing was giving me a chance to see all of them in the theater. Now Disney just took the opportunity away. F U Disney!

So you would rather get 6 films you have already seen countless times in shoddy rushed post converted 3d than a new trilogy from an arguably better director and studio? I never got to see the originals in theaters, but I had absolutely no interest in seeing them in crappy 3D. They weren't made for 3D, and they don't belong in 3d. And before you go damning Disney think that disney could do a better conversion down the road. Not likely because as profits show with their recent release of Monsters Inc 3D the market for 3D re-releases seems to be dwindling.

What I would like to see is that they re-release the saga in 2D before Episode 7 comes out, think about it, it would seriously make a boatload of money and allow people to experience the Saga in the theater again, I know I would go if they did that! Star Wars forever!

So happy the 3D releases were cancelled or delayed. Hate any and all 3D and 3D re-releases. What a waste of screens.

Hell yeah! I'd be there if it was in 2D as it was meant to be seen. Think about it, Disney does knew 4K transfers of the OT for the re-release to theaters.

So why are all the online news outlets reporting the 3D's canceled? The Lucasfilm press release clearly says postponed.

Most news sources forget the difference between postponed and cancelled nowadays

shit no it wasnt. It was post converted and there were no "reach out and grab you" 3D moments at all. If anything Disney did you a favor and stopped you from throwing money away just because something bad that was clearly a cash grab had Star Wars slapped on it.

I never said, nor implied, that. Surely they could've had a seperate team handle the 3D releases while their main team handles the new trilogy. Much like Nintendo's main team worked on New Super Mario Bros. U while a secondary team handled New Super Mario Bros. 2. Yes, I know those aren't movies, but so what?

good for you then, the rest of the audience who showed up to enjoy it during a night out on the town didn't need haters showing up and bashing it.

Or maybe that Monsters, Inc. just doesn't seem to hold up anymore, when compared to the Toy Story trilogy, The Incredibles, etc. There may be a Monsters, Inc. prequel set in a university, but so what?
