lol "cuanto anos tiene?" If I was younger, I wouldn't be embarrassed to say but I have been chatting with a lot of Colombians on FB messenger lately and they habla ingles so I've been translating a lot. I am really surprised that English isn't more common down there but I guess that's understandable. Mexico is right next to the US so it would make sense that more Mexicans might know English than South Americans.
I shouldn't say this but luckily the one Brazilian that I've hung out with (no intercourse) here knew what I meant when I wanted...nope, I'm just gonna stop right there.

I shared a crazy story one time and hid it in spoilers and it got deleted by a mod I guess. Somewhat understandable but most of us are adults here, I hid it in spoilers, so if I share a little story about a totally random roadside blowjob that I got (not from the Brazilian), I don't think it's that big of a deal

Bronco or Jeep Wrangler?

Most non-Brazilian South Americans that I've ever met were totally amazed at the fact that I don't speak Spanish nor intend to. Why would I ever learn that language?

Fun fact: Portuguese and Spanish can be mutually intelligible, but that's basically one-sided. A Portuguese-speaking person can undertand like 60-70% of Spanish but they have a harder time understanding us.

I don't know if I knew that you were from Brazil Bernardo. I'm not sure if the Colombian that I hung out with here spoke English. I don't think she did. Maybe poquito? The one that I met in Germany did though. She was a professional in Sao Paulo so that might be why.

So it sounds like you're saying that Brazilians are smarter than the other South Americans?

No at all, we just don't want to learn Spanish lol

Most schools here teach English or French. I've learned some German in mechanical engineering but eventually dropped out and joined med school.

If you can get by speaking with a Spanish-only speaker, that makes sense. And you are an educated man

I'm not from South America but I can guarantee the feeling is mutual, if not stronger One country with an imported language flanked by an entire continent that speaks another singular language just HAS to feel weird. Spanish is the second most-spoken language in the world, by the way. Unless someone is an isolationist, I don't get why someone wouldn't want to learn it voluntarily.

Careful with those Colombian women. In my experience, they're some of the most stuck up, vain women I've ever met.

What's really on my mind though is the 26-year old Latina that was working in housekeeping at the hotel. Damn, I wish I had seen her yesterday. Not that she would have been into me or anything like that but to have another day would have been nice.
And then there was a woman, closer to my age, at breakfast this morning. Unfortunately, she was with who I am assuming was her husband but she had this tight pink workout outfit (with long short over) and she looked good too.

What you need to do is buy a blow-up woman from the Philippines. Actually, you should buy two blow-up women. That way you have an extra for formal occasions.

Well, we're the only Portuguese-speaking nation in the americas, flanked by Spanish-speaking countries. But at the same time we're the largest country in Latin America, not just in size but in economy as well (8th largest economy in the world, Argentina, the second largest South American economy, is the 24th). Largest military power in the americas too, second only to the USA, of course. So it's perfectly understandable why Spanish isn't seen as a prestige language in Brazil and will never be for the foreseeable future. Brazilians want to learn English, which is way more useful to us than Spanish (we don't really travel to South American countries besides Uruguay and Argentina).

Even Mandarin Chinese would be more useful to us, since our biggest trading partner is China.

Dame Edna was once asked by a reader from Palm Beach for advice on what foreign language to learn. "People tell me to learn Spanish," said the letter. "They say 'everyone is going to be speaking Spanish in 10 years.'"

Dame Edna replied in character: "Forget Spanish. There's nothing in that language worth reading except Don Quixote and a quick listen to a CD of Man of La Mancha will take care of that."

"There was a poet named Garcia Lorca but I'd leave him on the intellectual backburner if I were you. As for everyone's speaking it, what twaddle. Who speaks it that you are really desperate to talk to? The help?"
