Why do some Blu Rays that have uncompressed audio tracks , default to compressed audio tracks?

It was what was originally chosen as a default with the BD Java interface. For example Celine Dion: Live in Las Vegas BD is going to do that because it was right when they were first adding lossless audio tracks, such as Dolby True HD, vs LPCM 2.0 default. Some BD titles are based on the same source/BD Java and receive new artwork and re-release date but other then artwork its the same as the previous release.

My Harry Potter Blu-rays do this as well. It defaults to the Dolby Digital 5.1 track instead of the PCM 5.1 track. I think it's because the Dolby Digital 5.1 are marked as the primary track on the disc though.

Also good to see even LG realizes OLED needs to be replaced with something better, namely mini LEDs and then micro LEDs

https://www.maxim.com/gear/new-lg-qn...0000-mini-leds

I really hope if I ever replace my projector that Micro LEDs are common enough to be affordable and available. If I had to I think I could enjoy a 900h type set in the mean time.

Edit - opened the Lord of the Rings Trilogy 4K set I received on Christmas and was surprised to see it's both theatrical and extended AND comes with movies anywhere 4K rights to both versions of all 3 movies. Wow. I only had HD extended copies in Movies Anywhere. I have been trying to give away my Game of Thrones set Digital copy since I already own it on Vudu ... maybe I should wait ... Now that someone explained 4K to HBO maybe it will show up in Movies Anywhere .... that would be nice but the Digital Movie world isn't that awesome yet.

I tallied my purchases for 2020 and I added 230 titles on disc this year.

I added 65 4K UHD titles, 146 blu-rays, and 19 DVDs.

In a mostly new category for me I also added 54 outright digital purchases in 2020; these were almost all $5-$10 bargain buys purchased partly to entertain my friends with whom I share access to my digital collection. I can count on one hand how many of these digital acquisitions that I have watched myself. Basically, I paid rental prices for these and no matter what happens to them long term I have access to these titles for far longer than I would have had with just a rental.

Don't hold your breath. Movies Anywhere does not redeem codes for TV shows; only movie codes can be redeemed through them excluding titles from Lionsgate and Paramount as these two studios are not affiliated with Movies Anywhere.

I would have bought even more, but having to replace my AVR impacted my movie budget.

As horrible as 2020 has been, it was a great year for catalog releases on disc.

That is quite a year! You can also add a new Marantz to your efforts in helping the economy. Was your tv this year too?

No, I bought my TV in Sept. 2019.

Your purchase of six REL HT/1508 Predator subwoofers at approx. $1800 each can't be overlooked; you were an economic stimulus package all by yourself.

Same here , it is the reason I use only one remote in the HT. On a serious note remotes like the MX-980 is not for all HT owners. You have to pay someone to program for you or purchase from a dealer that will give you the programming software. Been doing my own since the MX-850. The MX-980, MX-990 (Complete Control series) programming is not for the faint of heart.

The payoff is a remote that can do up to 255 devices, use custom graphics (as I do), lights when moved, use Pronto hex codes and the big one, macros. One button push in the HT turns on (or off) all equipment, selects source, selects volume, selects scene in AVP, projector HDMI input, etc. Another example, potty break, one button push pauses the current content on the current device, turns on wall sconces and other marker lights. Resume does the opposite. Mine shown in lighted state.

Default Bought my first 4K BD yesterday, it came with a digital copy, please explain to me

Just bought my first 4K UHD BD yesterday, Jaws. Bought it from Best Buy for a good deal, and it came with a digital copy code. So I set up my Movie Anywhere account for the first time yesterday. I synchronized my MA account with my Itunes, my Google/Youtube account, my Vudu profile, and my Microsoft account. Yep this is my first time having a digital copy of a movie and having a MA profile since I bought Jaws 4K BD. Wow, Movie Anywhere is amazing, allowing me to synchronize with various digital streaming distributors like Microsoft Movie & TV marketplace, Itunes, Google/Youtube, Apple Itunes. If I ever get a Verizon Fios TV in the future, I might synchronize that too. But I'm stuck on AT&T U-verse for now.

Anyway, I haven't tested my digital copy on Vudu, and Youtube yet. But after I got chance to sync my Apple Itunes account with my MA profile. I downloaded my digital copy of Jaws for my Itunes on my PC. And this really surprise me when I looked at the size of the download file for the movie on Itunes.

REALLY!!! 4 GB file size and in 720p resolution? If I was a videophile, I wouldn't be happy with this because current tablets and current (and future) smartphones can display at 1080P (and for some model(s) of smartphones including Iphones, 4K UHD). I can understand the file size (although to be honest, the file size should be bigger to accommodate 1080p and 4K smartphones and tablets/Ipads), but 720p. Aren't there iPhone(s) and Ipad(s)/tablets that are capable of 4K video playback? What about those with Apple TV 4K? Are they going to watch their downloaded Itunes movie that came with the digital copy in 720p instead of 1080p or 4K?

I'm pretty new at the digital copy thing after I just got my first one. Could somebody explain if this is normal for any MA users who sync their Itunes profile.

To show they are not all like that

Alita_ Battle Angel (1080p HD).m4v 4.96 GB
Aladdin (1080p HD).m4v 4.09 GB
Hugo (HD).m4v 4.30 GB. This is a 720P

Not all films are available as 1080P downloads

Yes, downloaded files are small they are not the same as the files used for Streaming. Probably for efficiency and convenience.

I just went back and looked at an approximate count of what I bought this year... I've been a little afraid to do it... 310 new titles this year, mix of Blu and 4k. Ugh...

The max resolution for downloaded movies on iTunes/TV is 1080p, but you may need to change the default settings to get this instead of 720p:

https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2019/0...ies-in-itunes/

Streaming resolution goes up to 4K depending on hardware support.

Watched several films over Christmas. Last night was Independence Day 4K. Crisp and fantastic detail. Plenty of grain but natural. Audio shook my core!

Was really fun to revisit and 4K made it well worth it.
