How does Luminate track and report data?

Automatic content recognition for original SVOD content minutes watched across 2.5 million connected TV’s

So it is similar to Sambatv that is an app.

Which means the data cannot baseline. Oh I see variety is a partner.

Luminate also notes that streaming franchises — including Marvel, Star Wars and Rings of Power — all underperformed last year. The second season of Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings series was down 60% in total minutes watched compared to Season 1, and Disney+ didn’t fare much better with offerings like Echo and Agatha All Along, which underperformed previous Marvel streaming series. But, juxtapose that with the fact that those big IP franchises were still the best performing series on Disney+, and the solution becomes unclear.
In other words, whatever one's opinion of ROP, the minutes watched is meaningless, because the IP strategy is solidly supported by data.

Even if you wanted to assign value to minutes watched, Luminate's data is U.S.-only, therefore doesn't reflect ROPs largest market, the U.K.

Amazon has made it very clear that at the very least ROP will receive at least one more season. Furthermore, they've also made it clear that any decisions specific to ROP would not be specific to the show, but their overall streaming strategy.

Amazon may make decisions specific to content and budget, but they're in it for a long game beyond how long a person watches, because the value of ROP viewer is tied to their value as an Amazon customer, no different than Apple, but very different than Netflix.

Like Star Trek Discovery, it was agreed to be a 5 Season run at least or they would have to pay a termination fee which is similar to just making another season.
Why does these studios keep falling for these deals?

Since it’s getting a third season chances of it running for the planned 5 seasons are pretty high.

Sounds more like this will be the final season from the premise.

Doubtful. The forging of the one ring takes place around the halfway point of the age in the books. Assuming that the war of the Elves concludes at the end of year 3 then you'd still have the Numenor situation to play out, the founding of Gondor and Arnor, the last alliance etc etc. I'd say they've still got plenty of material for a fourth and fifth season.

Default Eventual Physical release?

Hi!

I was wondering if there had been any rumors anywhere about Rings of Power getting a physical release for seasons 1 and 2? I remember that In Search of Physical Media mentioned that we may be getting an August release (I have attached the screenshot) and now that Fallout Season is getting a physical release, it leaves me more hope for Rings of Power.

That being said, sometimes I see DVD copies of seasons 1 and 2 on Amazon and Amazon.CA and don't know if those are legit or pirated?

Any ideas or input would be awesome!

Thanks

There are no physical releases so far, UHD, BD or DVD. Anything you've seen will be a knockoff.

That said, I would think that a physical release in some shape or form will almost be inevitable given the amount of $$$ that Amazon need to make back from their (huge) investment.

That's good to hear. Especially since they are now putting Fallout on Physical media in July, I feel like some people would purchase Rings of Power. (I personally would even to just look at it on my shelf of collections)
