Like another commenter mentioned, i'm gonna miss the 21st Century Fox fanfare that played before every Star Wars film. Now we'll get the Disney logo instead... Geeky nitpick sure, but it just doesn't seem right to me

After the prequels which were tepid at best, this could be great news...Star Wars lives on and is now beyond Lucas's full creative control.

? Eh.

Point was, it WAS avaliable to buy for £30. Game went bust so unlikely to be back in stock.

We'll probably see a release of Howard the Duck now then but cut for the younger audience!

It seems like a remote chance at this point, but it would be a smart move. I doubt people would care if Disney simply re-released the blu-rays with Disney garbage all over the packaging.
BUT if they were to release the original theatrical editions, fully restored, they could do so to fanfare.

Help us Disney inc. You're our only hope...

It's still not clear if distribution rights have also been passed to Disney from Fox.

I don't care. That bd set has had plenty of viewings - especially ESB. I don't mind having box-sets and individual releases stacked together on my shelves. I buy bds for watching not as ornaments. I'm all for a new Star Wars film, especially if scripted/directed by someone else. btw I just didn't like the Clone Wars series, the oft read 'better than the prequels' argument doesn't hold much water with me. I rate the action oriented ROTS much higher. I followed the Clone Wars for a while then finally got fed up with the sheer naff-ness of it. Disney & Star Wars - fine with me - I know Disney can do dark if need be. Pirates of the Caribbean 2 had a raven plucking out a human eyeball a la Excalibur. This doesn't necessarily mean umpteen Gungans being silly on battlefields. This is a win/win situation as far as I'm concerned - happy about the news.

Film already missed out the biting satire, counter-cultural nature and adult humour of the early run of this cult Marvel comic. Cuts couldn't hurt it any more, a truly abysmal comic adaption.

Edit: Ironically the Howard the Duck comic was toned down and completely lost it's spark after Disney threatened Marvel with legal action, complaining about name & visual similarities to Donald Duck.

What? Paramount wasn't behind the Marvel movies. Marvel was. Paramount had a distribution deal with Marvel, much like Lucasfilm had with Fox to distribute Star Wars.

Iron Man 3. Then the deal with Paramount is done and dusted and all distribution rights pass to Disney. With regard to Fox, they are retaining the distribution rights for the already released Star Wars movies.

Disney could create new masters of the Original Trilogy, but Fox would most likely be the ones releasing it.

I love how Lucas has been saying for years "RWGGG NO MORE STAR WARS, STAR WARS BELONGS TO ME, **** YOU PEOPLE!!" only to change his tune with Disney comes a waves a 4 billion dollar check in his face, is like "I've always believed Star Wars could live beyond me, i wanna pass this on to a new generation" - Yeah, you do that George.

I call sell out!

Except that he (his lawyers) went to Disney, not the other way around.

You all realise that he's part of the charity set up by Bill Gates? At least half of his fortune will be going to charity when he dies. The more money he has when that happens, more gets given away.

They'll still happen. Fox owns the distribution rights to those.

Lucas would have lost all franchise control after his death, at least this way he managed to choose who the winning and most suitable bidder would be. Er...he's not ill is he??

Lucas said

It's a nine-part saga that has a beginning, a middle and an end it progresses over a period of about fifty or sixty years with about twenty years between trilogies, each trilogy taking about six or seven years

the way i see it is that as long as clone wars TV series continues to be as good as it is I can blank any forthcoming films if they are terrible. I mean Ive had to put up with the prequel trilogy (thank go for clone wars).

if only money didnt make the world go round...we would just have 3 star wars films....Id be happy with that
