Still curious what a gamestop might offer. Will have to try and give a call sometime soon. Just wondered if anyone already tried it.
A couple of months ago Sony was offering to swap my failed 60 GB for a 120 slim. I took advantage of it and am happy with the new unit. Contact them through the sony esupport link recommended to you by the above poster. Total cost for the swap was $107 including tax. They do not charge for shipping either way. Instructions are sent with the box. Good luck.

I would actually recommend SudburyMods.com. I have used them. They include a fan modification to prevent overheating from occurring again, and they offer a lifetime warranty as well.

Default How reliable are PS3 Slims, anyway?

I am considering getting a second PS3, a slim, to act as an additional media extender and movie player.

Now that the slim has been on the market for a year or so, does anyone know what their reliability is like? Do they suffer from YLOD as well or blu-ray laser failure, and if so, how does it compare to the original fats?

Any hard data is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Default Who do you contact if you have a problem with your PS3?

Who do you contact if you have a problem with your PS3?

Hey guys, I bought my slim PS3 last year and there seems to be a problem when a game is saving or loading the icon is distorted into a pixely mess. It doesn't seem to affect the game but I've noticed it now when I use BBC iPlayer and other TV services.

Should I contact the store I bought the PS3 from or can I contact SONY UK? I can't seem to find anyone else with the same problem, I don't have many games but it affects nearly all of them.

Any advice (and contact links) would be greatly appreciated.

I'd rather do research about it than ever calling the useless PlayStation Helpline again.

Are you sure it's not your TV? Usually when I hear about people getting weird visual artifacts it's because of motion-interpolation features that are enabled.

i.e. check to make sure Game Mode is turned on your TV for the channel that your PS3 is set to before you go calling anyone.

Ghostbusters!

I'd just give Sony a call, my guess is it's nothing.

Thanks for the advice guys, I don't understand that I can't find anyone else who's had the same problem. My TV settings are fine all the high-tech-jiggery-pokery is turned off and it only happens when a game is saving or loading.

I started having huge display issues and swore up and down that it was my PS3 malfunctioning and it turned out to be my TV. I went to the manufacturer's website and downloaded the latest firmware update for my TV and it fixed the problems. There may be a patch or something out for your TV that could help. Worth looking into.

Thanks, the TV's firmware is up-to-date. I'll have a play around with it on my other TV's as well. I think if it's a problem with the TV upstairs then I'd imagine it's a PS3 issue.

In addition to the fan mod, I forgot to mention the HUGE fact that Sudburymods.com also reballs the GPU with lead solder instead of just reflowing it. Combine those with the lifetime guarantee, and I don't think there is another shop that beats them. Reballing is $120, and that includes the fan mod and lifetime guarantee.

Hi, my PS3 fat 40gb model (320 upgraded) failed las nite. i noticed a few nights ago the fan was going high speed and i had the AC on and its always getting good airflow. i was downloading one fo the free PSP games ironically and playing MW2 at the same time. i noticed the fan was going full blast. i saw a weird screen on the TV and then the PS3 shut off....YLOD.

have u ever had any repair done at Sudbury? im thinking a reballing may be worth it. thank u for the link!

btw i think my PS3 is about 3 yrs old. i really didnt use it all that much, maybe about 10 hrs a week gaming and a few movies. oh well..

So for some weird reason my 120gb PS3 slim can't run the Netflix app (most of the time I'm getting the 100 error code, but sometimes I get other codes too. However, my 40gb PS3 runs Netflix just fine. Is there some kind of issue going on with the slim PS3s and Netflix? Or is there some kind of trick to fix this issue that I'm unaware of?

Hey, kingofgrills, I just put in a order for the Fan Mod and 19 Blade Fan from the site you posted. Came out to $74 after shipping. I'm tired of having to re-flow my PS3 every month or so (even more often in the summer), so I figured this would give me a break and piece of mind.

Maybe you can answer one question for me, though. With the fan mod, do you control fan speed by using a switch or does it just run at a constant speed. In the video on their site, they show that they're able to control fan speed, but they don't show how. Just curious if it's an internal piece of hardware or what.

I sent my system to them to be reflowed and have the fan mod back in January. The fan mod changes the fan to constant speed, so right from powering up it goes at probably the second or third speed. That prevents the system from getting warm, instead of waiting until that point for the fan to really get going.

If you've reflowed your PS3 a few times, you might consider getting your PS3 reballed instead. They clean out the existing, crappy lead-free solder and use leaded solder instead. It is much more resilient and has a melting point much higher than the PS3 will operate at.

Is anyone noticing a white mark on the top right corner of their screen when watching a movie? My wife just pointed it out to my the other day and now I cannot help but notice it. At first I thought it could of been 'burn marks', but now I'm noticing them even when the movie is paused.

A quick one, can you get custom folders under your Games bit on the PS3? I'd like to arrange them into Demo's/Full games etc, but there's only a limited sorting function I can see.

If you press on a game and select "Information" I think there's a place where you can input text (called Folder or Game Info or something).
Anyways, type whatever you want into that field, then group by folder and it should appear in a folder with that name.
