With a projector screen Steaming < Upconverted Blu < UHD and the differences are clear generally.

There's a very clear difference between Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray on my monitor. Viewing distance is just as important as screen size: at the distance I sit 28" looks just as big as a projector screen from across the room.

That’s why I think it has half a chance of stealing market share form actual TVs in a 5-10 year timeline. Once the tech is capable of functioning as a PC, games console and entertainment system.

Would like to know the views of Wendell (amongst our other friends) who have a big passion for the equipment side of things. Would they ever accept just putting on their AR glasses and pulling a app up rather than their current situation. Don’t think I ever would.

As for me, I do not like wearing stuff on my head. 3 hours of wearing 3D glasses is my limit.

I would rather have a real projector projecting onto a real 120" screen or a real 120" TV... if they ever exist and at prices mere mortals can afford.

They are just going to be a pair of glasses with a holographic display for projecting objects into your real world view. Tens of millions already wear glasses.

I sit less than two feet away from my 32" computer monitor and viewing content on it in no way compares with watching content 9' feet away from my 85" TV. No comparison at all; the 85" TV wins, no contest every single time.

And I'm one of them. I still don't like wearing them, though, and I only do so when necessary. Syncing up the glasses of multiple viewers also sounds like a headache waiting to happen. I'm open to trying these AR glasses, but I bet I will stick with actual displays.

I can't even stand to wear a hat and did that ever cause me trouble in both the military and on the RR.

It's all personal preference. They probably fill up a similar amount of your field of view.

You might struggle to find real displays if these things take off. However, I’m with you, real every time.

That's what people say about streaming, too.

My 85" TV kicks my 32" monitor's butt up and down the block despite both filling my field of vision at their respective viewing distances.

Why do people who don't care about physical media love to parrot "By the way, it's not really yours" when speaking about discs, as if the legal disclaimers and terms of use make any practical difference? Speaking practically, the disc and the information stored on it is mine. The studio will never come to my home and take that copy, so why even bring it up? There are plenty of laws that have no practical impact on my life.

My issues with streaming are not about it's picture or audio quality at all. Streaming is inferior because titles can be modified or removed at any time. Customers have absolutely no control over any content. No improvements in bitrates or codecs can ever fix that fundamental flaw.

Even a DVD is far superior to a 4K stream because customers have control over it. No one can ever stop us from playing, giving away, selling, or buying physical media.

If I may borrow from someone's trademarked vernacular, Smaug was Amazing! in 4K and in Dolby Atmos! I almost had an "accident" during his rampages! Good thing my couch is leather.

Me too. I had a Toshiba 32" inch TV and a Pioneer CLD player, I forget the model but I still had to flip the LD over. I ended up getting the Pioneer DVL-909(919?) LD/DVD combo player later on.

I already had my AVR and speaker system. In fact, the speakers are still in use as part of my legacy sound system.
