Already ordered Sweet Smell of Success and Shock Corridor and am currently deciding between Blow Out, Paths of Glory and Army of Shadows, can only afford one more, can someone tell me what's my best option here? I haven't seen any of them, but I'm a big Kubrick Fan as I've seen everything else directed by him and The Conversation is one of my favourite movies and I've heard it's similar to Blow Out. Thanks in advance.

This is a great turn of events and I for one appreciate your efforts to get the word out about these original logos. Not saying that's what caused Criterion to go this route but it couldn't have hurt

Not seen Army of Shadows. Between the other two I'd say that Paths of Glory is overall the 'better' film and a bit more of an influential classic, but Blow Out is driven by ideas I find a bit more interesting. The execution of those ideas stumbles slightly in places so I don't think it succeeds on its own terms as much as PoG. If, like me, you also love films about films/filmmaking (Peeping Tom comes to mind as a good reference point), Blow Out may be your preferred title... if you're more into movies that deal with war and historical political issues then PoG...

Blow Out is very good in its own ways but aside from subject matter I wouldn't say it's too similar to The Conversation.

Blow Out is more toward the thriller end of the spectrum, it's literally darker, there are more camera gimmicks (not a knock, just an observation) and it has a distinct late 70s feel.

Neither Paths of Glory or Army of Shadows are likely to disappoint. If I had to choose one of the three I'd go with Paths of Glory - part of that is just a matter of tastes on my part but if you're a Kubrick fan you're going to want it sooner or later and it's not likely to get any cheaper than now.

I would absolutely agree with you on the Ozu Eclipse sets...if BFI wasn't releasing all of the Ozu films (most of them on blu-ray), then I would already own ALL of the Criterion Ozu releases!

A bit surprised that the Dearden films haven't seen a blu release in the UK.

I like your desciption of "League of Gentlemen"...I'm even more psyched to see it!

Maybe, it a great sale though. I inititally purchased Le Cercle Rouge , but just added: Blow Out, Paths of Glory, The Sweet Smell of Success, Kess, and Army of Shawdows. The shipping date for the titles in my new order (Paths of Glory 5/2) is from May 11 -15. I guess I can wait .

Curious what everyone's thoughts on Wages of Fear are? I'm watching it right now, I don't know how to describe it but I just feel like the "suspense" isn't suspenseful. There isn't enough about these characters to make me really feel anything for them. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Picked up Red Shoes and Blow Out. Tempted by BBS on Blu-Ray. I have the DVD edition. Must show restraint.

I got Sanjuro/Yojimbo for 53 dollars and now it's half that. I would be upset, but it's worth the money I paid

Amazon offering 21 bucks credit for it, I'd use it towards the upgrade. Free shipping too, postage paid for

I broke down and got Paths of Glory. It's going to be like 25 bucks once you put the shipping on it, and no import fee yet, but it's still cheaper than the Canadian price, and hopefully the dollar will still be above or par by the 9th of May. Stupid Amazon, or stupid me, I just couldn't resist. At least I'll have my pay by then.

I just streamed the first half of Che and I have to say, I always thought Benicio was talented but I had no idea he could get quite that invisible.

This sale really came at a bad time for me. I have to pay for the upcoming summer semester this week, and won't get paid for 2 weeks.

I was crunching numbers and everything, and there is just no way that I can even buy one movie

I hope this stays up for a month, though that will not happen.

All I wanted was:

- Blow Out
- Paths Of Glory
- Le Cercle Rouge
- Army of Shadows

Having recently watched The Double Life of Veronique I would rate that a must buy for this sale.

Amazon sent me the refund e-mail on Blow Out. My preorder cost was reduced from $26.99 to $18.99 - I knew they would take care of me.
