I just put on the 4k disc of They Live from SF and the Atmos soundtrack is also killer. Wow, I'm floored.

Get better speakers, then maybe I might consider your insults the tiniest bit worthy.

You just took a jab at alchav for your own amusement and my wee little joke upsets you?

Maybe alchav21 will be reincarnated as a squirrel with his nutty personality.

My remark is nowhere near to being an "insult"; referring to someone as a nutty squirrel is a lot closer to being one, though. Get a thicker hide if you wanna throw shade around here, John Boy.

Its for his posts that got deleted in another thread that I am picking on him. You on the hand are obviously bored. Probably due to watching 4K LOTR/Hobbit with your mixed opinions too much.

I am bored, but not because of watching movies. I have to go shopping tonight with my sister. Hard to get excited about a trip to Walmart; maybe if I accosted strangers in the movie section like your buddy does it would be more fun?

I never said anything "mixed" about The Hobbit trilogy on 4K disc, either. I had a little bit of criticism for LOTR on 4K disc, but I said I was happy to have the set in the LOTR 4K thread. My full comments on that set can be found here:

I am not someone who pauses the image and walks up to my 85" screen looking for problems, but they are there and I saw several examples as the movies played. Thankfully, these moments are comparatively few and I enjoyed my time in Middle Earth immensely, but these could have, and should have, offered a much more consistent viewing experience.

I completely enjoyed the Atmos audio; I have no complaints here at all. The sound was incredible even on my basic Atmos arrangement.

I would give the first film an A- on its video presentation. I like the new color grade and I did not notice very many flaws. There were moments when some scenes looked almost like a video game cut scene, but these were few and far between.

The second film is where I found the most problems; I give it a B- on its video presentation. When the flag at Edoras floats away on the wind towards the city below the resolution drops badly and some of the background looks smeary. It's a brief moment, but an obvious one.

Later, when the warg attack begins as the people of Edoras make their way to Helm's Deep, there is a scene where Aragorn and his party are on horseback charging to battle the wargs. To my disbelief, I saw the blade of Aragorn's raised sword disappear twice; for a very short moment it looked like he was doing a fist pump! These were the two most egregious flaws that I noticed and they were over and gone almost as fast I could say "wtf?"

Panning shots look a bit murky, but when the camera stops the scenery regains its detail. There are more examples of that video game cut scene look in the second movie also. These scenes reminded me of how Alita Battle Angel looked.

Elrond's prophecy of Arwen's future in, mostly, black and white did not bother me as much as I thought it would, but I still prefer how it looked on the blu-ray.

There was more like to about The Two Towers presentation than there was to dislike by far, but it has several flaws and they are obvious when they appear- at least they were to me.

The third film gets a B+ from me because those video game like segments return here, too. The movie looked almost animated at times in some of Frodo's closeup shots and elsewhere.

I did not notice the top of Gandalf's staff disappearing as some people did in screencaps posted earlier in this thread; maybe in motion it was undetectable or I just did not catch it. Still, I felt the third movie's presentation was more consistent in quality than the middle film and where it shines, it shines bright indeed.

For the most part I am pleased with this set, when it looks good does it ever!, and that describes the vast majority of its running time. The Atmos audio was excellent all around.
[Show spoiler]I feel like there was a lot of missed potential with this set; it could have looked better and more consistently so, but I am still very happy to own it. All of the above is just my opinion after my first full viewing; I do not pretend to have any expertise in evaluating video quality. This set is a keeper for me, but I am going to hang onto my blu-rays for the original look of that Arwen segment alone.

At least you have company and something to do. These days limited travel for essentials is boring. May you find something good to watch that's new soon.

Having CRS makes everything I watch something new.

I watched The House With A Clock In Its Walls 4K disc last night and it was a light breezy fun film with, dare I say it, impressive Atmos audio?

I don't even leave the house for "essentials" like shopping anymore. I have Instacart Express and it rocks. They sent me 2 coupons yesterday for $50 off $100 from Walmart. The prices are great and I was able to get my entire order, with fees and tip, to about $60. It's a steal and saved me a trip and hours of shopping at a brick and mortar store.

Understood. I have very few region B disc but they are titles that I very much wanted.

My collection is not big compared to some but I buy all titles that are worthy of repeat viewings for us. We have watched 1000's of titles via rentals since the early/mid 1980's. Recently went to Netflix DVD and had it show me the number of disc rentals for the last 7 years. For that period my average cost per title is $1.97 with most being on Blu-ray. Suspended Netflix disc for a couple of years and used Blockbuster by mail so Netflix does not show rentals back to 2006.

I only buy films I actually like, looked that over, eh. The 4K Great Wall is more interesting. You should try one of the few Dolby Atmos music blu-rays, like Hams Zimmer: Live in Prague on BD.. But Dolby Atmos immersion doesn’t excel very much with music concert material. It makes the audience sounds more present interestingly. But since you got a new toy, enjoy. I’m waiting for this AV industry to become competitive again, it’s far from that right now, except for TVs.

Same here, replay value is key. Yet very guilty of watching more new material that watching from my collection when stuck at home. Then I do marathons of content that is related. Sometimes from old DVD sets.

I own Great Wall, but on 3D blu-ray; I have yet to watch it. I will have to remedy that.

Atmos music blu-rays peak my interest; any other recommendations?

4K hardware topic not related to streaming where a chain of messages related to your Bravia streaming mention went poof!

I own the INXS concert and it is outstanding as they did the video and audio justice. Plus, you are getting to see a band at their peak captured in front of a great Wembley crowd.

Another Atmos show is hard to get, but it is worth it if you are a fan of Pink Floyd. I have watched my copy a few times and it always puts a smile on my face.
