[Show spoiler]I THINK due to the lack of gravity he used the falling of the elevator to help create a kick that would send himself and his teammates back up to the first level of Ariadne's dream.

[Show spoiler]Physics explain everything.
No gravity doesnt mean no air in the atmosphere. And if you blow up something, air creates vacuum which creates forces.
This forces made the elevator move.
The key is remembering that there was air in the hotel.

And he needed the elevator to fall to generate kick so that they wake up from previous level of dream.

I have amazon prime and my preordered copy of inception has not arrived yet. It shipped on the 6th and says its in transit. The problem is that the last listed activity is a departure scan in Reno, Nv on the 6th. The destination is Texas. It says the expected delivery is on the 8th, but it's already the 9th. So idk. Just give it more time? There hasn't been any activity in 3 days and I have 2-day shipping. Anybody else not get theirs yet? Probably just backed up due to Christmas.

Just a small FYI here,
[Show spoiler]Ariadne was never one of the dreamers, They used the machine to enter Fischer's mind, this is where they were the whole way through. In Fischer's mind they created 3 separae dreams.

1st level was Yusuf's dream
2nd was Arthur's dream
3rd was Eames'
Limbo is shared dream space.

You probably just made a mistake in your typing though lol

Anyways, yes. To answer the guys question that is exactly right, they needed to feel falling aswell not just being blown up.

Call UPS and see what they say. I had a similar problem (not with amazon though) and turns out, my item was lost. It was supposed to come Nov. 19th and it's still not here (I got a replacement in the meantime).

One of the first things I thought about while watching this film was when I was in Jr. High and I came home from school to watch "Alien".

I recall laying on the couch and the sequence in which Dallas, Ripley, and Ash enter the medical room to check up on Kane was on the TV. I fell asleep and it felt like at least 5 minutes. When I woke up, all three were still at the entrance of the room. For years that puzzled me.

Watching "Inception" and thinking about that event in my life made me feel a lil sane for a short moment!!

Ariadne is the architect, those people you named are the subjects, I know I'm not getting that completely right. You still see her in that basement talking to Cobb about how the third level will be the hospital...

I think you all are missing something in your answers which negates the proper explanation. As to the reason why he had to move the crew into the elevator:

[Show spoiler]1. He missed the initial kick which was supposed to happen before the van went airborne. The explosives were going to send them all back to the first level of the dream sequence by imploding the floors and giving them a falling sensation. When the van went airborne, the second dream sequence went anti-gravity due to the time differential and the fact that they were in Arthur's dream, thus he was subconsciously recreating the sensation from the first dream sequence.

*Note* the kick must be given in the dream. Thus, Arthur wouldn't have woken himself up even though the van containing the whole crew was falling in the first dream sequence, unless he performed the kick in his own dream.

2. Arthur had heard the music which signaled a certain amount of time left to perform the kick. He knew he had to think of something, and figured out that the sensation of falling would be achieved in the elevator shaft after being propelled by the explosives. Then it would all sync up with the floor falling out from underneath them in the 3rd sequence, to the elevator shaft in the 2nd sequence, then to the van in the 1st sequence.

However in all that, one thing remains unexplained:

How did yusuf not wake from his sequence? Instead he made it out with the rest. The others didn't make it to the kick because by the time they reached the first sequence they were underwater, but Yusuf? Not sure.

How can anyone answer this for you? I dont like Inception very much, so Id say no, the next guy will say its great and its worth a blind buy. No answer is right or wrong, its just all opinions, so it would be wise to rent it first, no?

Anyway, it's like the Matrix in some ways. Almost a ripoff off considering almost every review of this movie brings the matrix up, except less its much less creative than the matrix. Pretty much looks like a regular movie, except that it's got a crazy concept to it.

The first level is Yusuf's dream.

Yes Ariadne is the architect, but she just creates the dreams. She gives the layouts to the people and they recreate it for their dream. They never actually go into one of her dreams.

The best way I can think of to explain it that it would make sense to me is someone else is dreaming but she creates the world they are dreaming in. LOL now I'm kind of confuzzled and I'm seeing it for the 6th time.

Finally got an update on my Inception disc. Should be here tomorrow. So much for two-day shipping. But at least I got a $5 credit...

Yeah thats pretty much it... She creates the things in the dream, but its not hers. If you remember she wasn't originally going to go into the dreams with them, but when she went into Cobb's dream with the elevator, she made him get her a seat on the plane to go with them. Yeah, watch it again

Any and all comparisons of Inception to The Matrix are asinine and quick outs to real discussion. Saying it's much less creative than The Matrix is also completely unreasonable. You're obviously basing your biased opinion off The Matrix and comparing two movies that are 99.99% incomparable to each other with two completely different concepts/premises but one vaguely, and I mean vaguely, similar setting.

The only reason reviewers bring The Matrix into the discussion is so they can be lazy and have a quick, "If you liked The Matrix you'll love this!" type of claim, in order to negate in depth writing. It's called lazy writing.
