What did Adam say on the day before Christmas?

It's Christmas, Eve.

Happy 50th birthday to you! There's still plenty of fun to be had, so don't let that number bother you any at all. Just keep a fire extinguisher close if you put all those candles on your cake.

This kind of reminds me of the Benny Hill joke. He was playing opposite Jackie Wright and says "On your last birthday, the candles cost more than the cake." Wright says "Did you count them?" Hill replies "I tried to but the heat drove me back." Love that show.

Been watching tonight a television airing of compilation film The Best of Benny Hill. I love the first two-thirds of it (the intentional bloopers and sketches The Messenger and The Passengers of Love being examples).

I finally got some of my chores done that I wanted done last Sunday.

Going over to my brothers this afternoon for Christmas. His wife and their freshly adopted kids are getting money. He is a Star Wars geek like me. He is getting a replica Luke Skywalker ROTJ lightsaber. I have been waiting months for this.

Last year Christmas Day it was a wet and rainy day. Today I think it is supposed to be dry but cold.

Another year and another review at work. Another great review. Supposedly a really good raise. My manager and others are pushing the Plant Manager to finally give me the Asst Shift Manager which I have been in line for for the last several years. We will see.

Foot surgery in mid March. Non weight bearing on my left foot for 6 weeks. How am I going to take care of myself. Move around my tiny little apartment. I cant do crutches.

Looking forward to seeing MST3K Rocketship XM later.

I am off until after New Year. Movie marathon time. Many many many to choose from.

Life is ok. Could be better, could be worse.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

Today, my mom would've been 81. It's funny, how my dad passed away a year ago yesterday and most of this year I have been missing my mom more. From waking up from dreams where she hates and blames me for all the pain in her life to crying. I loved my dad, don't get me wrong. But my mom was my everything when love left me for dead. She made me forget about the pain when she was around. I could some peace knowing she was there. She died too early. So did my dad. One loss in 15 years would be enough. But three is more than a man can be held to bear.

This time of the year grows hard for me with every passing year. Every passing hour. I feel so numb and empty. More so than usual, though. I can tell because I'm listening to Patty Griffin's Flaming Red. It's an album I first heard in 1998 when it came out. I played the he-- out of it for the next couple of years. I don't listen to it much these days. But when I do it's because it's brings much pain. With songs like Mary and Tony. Tony is an especially hard one that details the struggles a boy goes through. The culmination of all that comes in the chorus:

"Hey Tony, what's so great about dying
He said I think I might do a little dying today
he looked in the mirror and saw
a little fa---t starin' back
pulled out a gun and blew himself away..."

These days when I am really dealing with pain through grief or depression I gravitate to the songs/albums that make me sadder. It's not that I seek it out intentionally. It just happens. My therapist says that grief & pain have to come out in some way. And if you're not doing it, it will find a way out. I don't seek out this stuff to make myself more miserable. But the need to express this pain and grief will do it to a person. I think part of the problem is the medicine I take. It's helping me cope and not be a COMPLETE basket case. But it also sort of pushes those feelings down until they explode. I haven't been to a therapist until this year. The one I was going to eventually quit in 2021 and I hadn't found anybody since then. Until now. So, it's going to take a while to get past some of these things. I’ve also learned that when you are dealing with this type of stuff your body/mind seek dopamine to numb that pain and make yourself feel good for a short while.

I've learned that the biggest release of dopamine is through pleasure/self-love. Which in itself isn't an awful thing. But it's not something you should hold onto. Not having my mom here to cover this up or remove me from that equation. Things have become worse. It's the way it is....* I'm listening to Liz Phair's Soberish, so I'm starting to shake some of this. This isn't meant to be a call and response. I just needed to get this out. Usually, when my mind starts turning those wheels, it ends up as a long/short story form piece I send to one of my aunts. This is something, though, that I can send to her. Not without freaking the whole family. It wouldn't do any good. But I know I have to get this excised from my brain. Thanks for reading.

*This is a shorter version of what I am currently writing down for myself to get rid of from my brain. They usually go for 3-6 pages. Again, thanks.

Will be having another six-day work week this coming week. I signed up to work my New Years holiday which will be Sunday night. I'll also be working one of my days off on Tuesday night. I was thinking I would only be working my holiday and still have my normal two days off.

So that has been on my mind and then I'm also wondering if I should order a few films before Nova Media's Winter Sale ends on December 31st.

As my Christmas vacation winds down and I begin to dread returning to work on Monday , I'd like to make a positive note that today is German director F.W. Murnau's birthday. Born on December 28th, 1888, Murnau has brought us such amazing silent film masterpieces like Nosferatu (1922), Faust (1926), and Sunrise (1927). I was completely blown away by Murnau's work and it sparked my passion for film (silent films in particular) a few years back.

So Happy Birthday to the man who risked it all to give us one of the greatest Dracula adaptations ever created (even if it was unauthorized).
