I haven't seen the Spielberg movie, but tonight I attended a theatrical performance of the play, War Horse. While the production was quite good, I thought the book was sorely lacking. Yes, I get it, the horse represents innocence and hope, and we're supposed to project our feelings onto it, but...how could the plight of a horse compare with the appalling human loss of life in that war? I recently saw the 1930 version of All Quiet on the Western Front, and recently read a book, Into the Silence, that features the First World War as a compelling context in the unsuccessful British attempts at summitting Mt Everest in the early 1920s. This was a conflict that was unimaginably brutal, and the play's storyline rubbed me the wrong way.

I love my job but I truly hate the people I work with. All but a few are the laziest people I have ever met in my life. I'm off twice a week and last night I was with my friends watching a movie and I get several calls within 5 minutes so I step out and call them back. No answer. I said screw it and sent a text saying "if you need me, I can get there around 10." No answer until 11:30 when I get a TEXT saying "I'm here, forget it" from another manager. A MANAGER.
This kind of thing seems to happen two to three times a month. I asked another coworker if there was even a need for me to come in. She said no, the manager just sat in the office texting on his phone and didn't want to "get his hands dirty". That is what he gets paid to do! Sorry but I needed to let off steam. I make great money there but it"s truly soul-sucking. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Absolutly love my new iPhone App "Ski Tracks"
It's a GPS app that monitors your skiing statistics. Today was the first time that I got to use it. Found out that my maximum speed today during average snow conditions was 48MPH. I can probably go around 55MPH during optimal conditions (while skiing in control, of course!). |
