Nothing they say is wrong, but I don't ever remember a real 6/10 game which I could not put down. On some level story doesn't matter if the core mechanics are fun enough.

I think we have only gotten an introduction to the overall story at this point.

In most cases I would scream "blasphemy" regarding this statement. However in the case of Destiny I must agree. The game does just enough right and so damn well, that it makes the areas that Destiny doesn't not excel at much more palatable. Plus I went into this game fully expecting it to be a sort of perpetual "work in progress" experience. I think Bungie has laid the foundation, the ground work for this franchise and I think it's only going to get better from here.

The bottom line for me is this, I am not typically an online gamer, nor a player of shooters. I generally hate multiplayer games, and value story above everything else in a good game. Having said that, Destiny holds my attention. The story sucks, the RPG bits are way undercooked, the missions are incomprehensible, there are no characters at all and the universe is disjointed, but somehow there's a draw to it. I don't know how long that draw will last, but they've got me for the moment. Whether or not they keep me is up to Bungie. The RPG stuff is just deep enough to function, the levels are very well done, the gameplay is straightforward. There's something to it that keeps me coming back over and over.

The public events on patrol ? I put the schedule up a few posts back. Pretty much every half hour.

Certainly made up for last weeks missing out on Xur gear. I got my Titan helmet which I desperately needed to replace my rare and also grabbed a hunter piece and warkock gauntlets. Then I grabbed the exotic engram twice.

I still have 13 strange coins and some motes hopefully for next weeks gear drops. Will hopefully farm out the weekly heroics next week on all chars if I bother getting the gear sorted. Already have a legendary helmet for my warlock but he's level 5 still.

I dislike the story execution; hope they'll patch ib somwthing better but the gameplay is crack like somebody said. If only they had done the story and grimoire Mass Effect 2 style and combined it with cutscenes and the brilliant game mechanics.

Oh well. Hope to play with some of you some more. I'm up for doing some raiding if I get a chance. Just shoot me a message to see if i'm free.

Yes, I have that same shader, reddit is going nucking futs, trying to figure out if it means anything

If you dismantle that legendary armor, you can't use, you will get 2 ascendant shards. These are so hard to find, and you'll need a metric crap ton of them, for upgrading your armor.

I am pretty much the same type of player. I play RPGs because I want an engrossing story unwind before me. I'm a big reader of sci-fi fantasy novels. That's why I absolutely loved the heck out of the Mass Effect trilogy (except the end), Dragon Age Origins, and Uncharted. These games had great stories and great gameplay. A lot of games I found story interesting, but gameplay not that great was something like Final Fantasy XIII which is grinding to just play through. This and Diablo III which both had weak stories (Destiny even more so) were still fun to play. This is why to me, as released I kind of agree with the IGN review giving it a 7.8, certainly not a 6. But this is an evolving game.

Diablo III was got pretty bad reviews when it was originally released. The game as we are playing it now is a very different game. So I'm looking forward to the future of Destiny. This is the first time I've ever pre-paid for an expansion pack, and only the second time I've even payed for a DLC.

Does the legendary armor always start out at +18 light?

I can feel my first piece dropping any minute now, but I'm wondering if I should work on upgrading right away if I can find a better piece since the materials to upgrade are so rare.

Also, I'm about to hit rank 2 in New Monarchy so I can actually buy some legendary armor. I may wait for one to drop though because, with my luck, I'll buy a helmet and then I'll immediately pick up a legendary helmet.

GT5 was pretty barebones when it released as well, but the seasonal events kept it fresh and exciting for a very long time. I get the same feeling with what they're doing with Destiny as well, which will really improve its ability to stay relevant for a while. Other than the bizarre randomness of the item drops, I really have no major complaints and feel this is well worth the money spent. I can easily see myself putting 100+ hours on this.

Story is very important in some genres. A turn-based RPG with a bad story is dreadful.

But when you are playing FPS games, the story at some point gives way. Even the ones with good story have no story at all when it comes time for the PvP aspect, and that's usually where people spend the most time.

Don't! When you hit rank 3 of any faction, they gift you either a weapon or armor, not an engram for trollach to turn into crap.

To be honest the easiest way to get legendary gear is to start working for a faction. Equip one of the class items then any rep you gain goes toward that faction. You need about 6000 rep to get to level three which then allows you to buy legendary weapons.

It's faster and 100% proof way to load yourself out with legendary gear.

Saw the "schedule" for the public events on reddit. It's been working like a charm. Much faster at raising my Vanguard rank and getting Marks.

It takes so long to gain a single level with the Vanguard/faction that it doesn't seem worthwhile to wait that long if you have the marks to spend, or am I missing something?

Farming doesn't seem any faster, considering that's a total gamble.
