Okay but the industry had a pathway to full adoption of 4K sources wider than JUST display while the industry limped into 4K UHD in 2016. The dodgy ramp up to it didn't make a failure point because the content was going full steam ahead. Despite earlier criticism over some grades and HDR.
In the first 2 years there was only a handful of supbar discs. And the displays were fine if you paid enough money. That's the unfortunate reality is the buy in on good 4K is put your money into it. Find the "price to performance" nexus at any screen size. This is also the case for HDTV arguably... My parents got a LCD Sony in 2009 and it was just okay. I enjoyed lossless surround audio more back then! Then they got a 3D Panasonic 50 inch and it was just way better PQ for Blu-ray discs. And I look back knowing if they paid even 500 or 1000 more there was even greater reference visual experiences to be had. |

Yeah, it's just the first one. Ten years from now it should be ready for prime.
By then 8K TVs will be everywhere. You cannot stop what's coming up. * In the year 2033 we might have one or two 4K/3D TV combo. That would be in line between Avatar 7 and 8. And, 100" TVs in 2033 should be the norm. Cameron would be proud; 8K/3Ð IMAX in our living rooms. |

Seems this company beat IMAX to the punch with a sensor bigger than IMAX 65mm film. Of course, it won't be used for features. But maybe someday...

8K TVs: Not Dead Yet, But Pretty Close
BERLIN—Contrary to some industry expectations, the European Union’s energy-efficiency mandates have yet to unplug the 8K television format in the EU. But that ultra-ultra-high-definition variant continues to face other obstacles, most of which don’t stop at this side of the Atlantic. The IFA tech trade show’s exhibits provided ample evidence of 8K’s relevancy struggles. The companies trying to make 8K a thing could talk up the size of their screens but didn’t promise anything new to watch in that resolution, while other electronics vendors with TVs on their menu either stuck to their 4K fare or switched their emphasis to efficiency and sustainability, two adjectives that 8K can’t claim today. https://www.pcmag.com/news/8k-tvs-no...t-pretty-close |

No real reason to buy 8K displays until native 8K content becomes available on 8K optical disc, 8K streaming, 8K download, 8K cable TV, 8K satellite TV, and 8K videogames. Maybe sometime in the year 2026+ we will have native 8K content available from sources other than YOUTUBE.

It is too bad the 8K Association does not mandate all 8K displays being manufactured must have the 3D feature built in, starting by the year 2026+. Along with ATSC 4.0 or 3.0 being mandated also if the display has any tuner built in, monitors and projectors would not be required to have built in ATSC tuner. Also requiring all 8K displays to have all 8K HDMI inputs. https://8kassociation.com/about-us/membership/ Too bad there is not people like James Cameron on the board who is a big supporter of 3D technology. |

Makes one wonder what they are doing with all of these unsold 8k TVs…
Too bad TV companies & the associations hopped on to 4k/8k while simultaneously abandoning 3d tech. Instead of continuing to support a unique feature that completely changes the viewing experience (and potentially improving it), they decided to improve the one factor that was already top notch (resolution). To even see the impact of the 32 million pixels you have to be 2 feet from your 8k 77” screen. What a waste of time, money & talent. If you want to improve displays from this point on, resolution ain’t gonna be it. |

It's time they slow the **** down, and focus on improving 4K displays.
Most regular TV watchers, don't even care about resolution. They just want to buy a new TV to continue watching their regular content. The amount of AV enthusiast, outside of these forums, are way smaller than people realize. |

It's the pricing premium on the sets.
Nobody wants to pay double/triple for something that has little to no native content. |

It never will have lots of native content. Thats where the failed marketing piece of that consumer sentiment comes in.
But everyone knows how I feel... I think they shouldn't do 8K but put all their focus in making all 4K HDR sets of really high quality. Keep upping "the floor" of specs at the same prices would be how they get my money. And millions of peoples $$$ |
