You would have had a heart attack if you went to the movies regularly in the 70's and early 80's.

So what's the problem then? The Blow Out BD looks miles better than what would have played at any shoebox mall theater back in 81.

Way too nit picky. The film looks great. Is their a lot of grain? yes. But it's not like it takes down any of the resolution from the image.

So I get a shipment notification from Borders early in the week and as the tracking page is updating, it says May 6th is the day when my movies will arrive...

I go to my mailbox at work today, and sitting there, looking all cool, are these...

I saw Blow Out in a theater in 1981. I was actually feeling as I watched the blu-ray that it had less grain than I remembered. And in fact, if you look at the details in the booklet, it says that under the direction of DePalma himself a little bit of DNR was applied.

Bottom line: The PQ of Blow Out is fine, imho anyway.

If you want to see some real over-the-top grain, try the blu-ray of Spielberg's CE3K in the night scenes. You'll get your dose of fiber for a whole week from one viewing of that...

It should also be mentioned that's one of the best BD's ever produced...

I tried to watch Head. Even though I was a fan of the Monkees in the late 60s at the age of 4 and 5 (their greatest hits was the first record I ever had), I just could not get into it, and stopped about a third of the way through....Don't think I'll go back to it.

But thank goodness after that I watched The Last Picture Show for the first time. Very Good film. Very good cast. Fine script. Nice PQ. Liked it a lot. Some great music. I liked the movies they picked to highlight too...Poignant.

I am with you good sir. Grain? huh, HELLO..... it's 2011! Get with the program Grain. Unwatchable. blah! Watching a BD with grain is like pulling teeth, though I never tried to pull a tooth. Yuck, unwatchable. How come they can't make transfers look non-film like, that's how I like it. I want to watch a crystal clear BD, not a movie that looks to be shot on film. That is......unwatchable. Can you believe some people choose to watch dvds still with VHS transfers? Can you? I know someone who owns a dvd of Mad Dog Morgan from Troma that is of a vhs transfer (forgot who that was? hmmmm.). Can you imagine? Say it with me: Unwatchable!

I didn't like the first third of Head either but after that it became really good IMO, I think the idea of it was that the Monkees are in these bad classic hollywood movies, war movie, desert movie, cowboys & indians. but then half way through, they get self aware, and try to leave the movie/escape. meanwhile they were also escaping their clean cut TV personas by making this crazy psychedelic movie

Quick question - I ordered a used copy of The Seventh Seal on Amazon Marketplace and it arrived today. Is it supposed to be in a DVD-esque black case? It's much different than any other Criterion I have which are all in the clear cases. The artwork doesn't seem to fit either but I'd like to make sure before complaining to them.

It should be the typical Clear/Small Case. Looks like they gave you a cheap replacement. Sorry to hear.

Thanks for letting me know. Amazon said they can't give me a replacement so I have to send it back for a refund. I guess I'll just reorder it for $17.99 now that the sale is still going on.
