I've had access to the Gravity Atmos track for a while. But I finally got an official copy of the recently released special edition.
138954_medium.jpg The reason is in equal parts wanting an official copy of the Atmos mix, but also the "Silent Space" mix without the background music. I read somewhere that the mix is incomplete and from what I've heard so far there are audio position clues and differences to the TrueHD mix. It's a pity that there isn't an Atmos version or at least a complete version matching TrueHD. But I'll probably end up watching it up-mixed anyway. Last edited by cdx47; 05-29-2024 at 01:44 PM. |

I watched Chang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings last night. I nearly got my eye poked out by the dragon scale dagger on a rope when the sister was training on the bamboo. Much better 3D than Black Widow. Next up will either be Eternals for the first time in 3D or a rewatch of Mad Max Fury Road.

Today's watch was Jurassic World Dominion
71lGcqtZ3cL.__AC_SX300_SY300_QL70_ML2_-751528506.jpg The 3D has decent depth and volume and is at the upper end of serviceable, maybe even good. Without it I don't think I could have completed this movie in 2D. The DTS:x audio while better than the Dolby Digital Atmos still felt a little lightweight. The CGI just doesn't look solid and the green screen makes it obvious enough that they are running away from nothing. I'm all in for dumb fun movies but for the most part this movie is just dumb, dumb. Not to mention the residue of post 2016 Hollywood, but to be fair, it could have been a lot worse. This is not a 3D showpiece but it's good enough that I could get through the movie. The DTS:x audio is loud but strangely empty. But to end on a positive note, the last 3rd of the movie gets the balance right between the old and new gang and is pretty fun. |

Since Elsinore was asking about it, again watched Hidden Worlds: Caves of the Dead. As mentioned the 3D is outstanding even with the environment causing some scenes to be a bit on the dark side (only reason it falls short of being reference quality - and taking that into account perhaps it deserves reference quality status). Great detail and color saturations
The documentary deals not just with underwater caves but the risks taken by cave divers who explore them. I sense the only reason it gets just a 5.9 rating on IMDb is that the awesome venues can only be brought to life due to the Impressive realism only 3D can achieve - with the majority of reviewers I surmise never seeing it in this manner. I caught a few minutes watching it flat and despite excellent video quality found it to be visually much less impressive compared to stereoscopic. Will also add this is the first complete title I've watched using newly purchased Sony UBP-X700M and it now kinda makes me glad my older all region player did break down. Guess you can say I highly recommend it to the 3D collector. Last edited by Joe D.; 06-01-2024 at 07:15 PM. |

The Adventures of Tintin.
4843668_sa-2141602308.jpg The 3D in this movie ranges from very good to excellent. The audio is well done with some nice LFE moments but unfortunately nothing to stress your subwoofer. Similar to Need for Speed, the 3D kept me interested for the first half of the movie. The second half of the movie is where things get going. There's nothing wrong here, good 3D, OK audio and an interesting enough mystery story. But there's also nothing here to make me want to watch it again. Last edited by cdx47; 06-04-2024 at 09:05 PM. |
