One of the few advantages of being chronically ill is that I always get excused from jury duty without ever having to appear.

I've never been summoned to Jury Duty. In 33 years that is rather odd.

That is odd. Some people are summoned over and over, yet others are only summoned once per decade or even not at all. Is it like a lottery and they pull names out of a bin? They need to add more names to that bin.

It you aren't registed to vote and don't have a driver's license you would never get a summons. It is strange that there isn't a "better" system.

You've mentioned that you have medical and/or mental health issues. Maybe you aren't eligible for some reason.

My wife and I have both been summoned but never had to actually go.

I hope that everything goes well for your mom tomorrow. Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion has an 85-95% success rate, so that's very encouraging.

Here's an article about it:

Sounds like a surgery many pro wrestlers have had.

I was notified *summoned* for Federal a few years back during good 'ol COVID. I had 5 or 6 reporting dates which was crazy. So I had to report in every daggone week.

A friend of mine also got a notice around the same time and he only had 3 dates. So I reported in and about the third week they said I was no longer needed and my service was over. Very strange process as I never had to go in and be interviewed. I did live about 50 mins away so maybe that had something to do with it even though they reimburse you for mileage.

That was the first time I ever had Jury Duty and I hope I never get it again as it's freaking annoying. I can only imagine how it is if you get picked.

My wife and I have both had jury duty but on that particular date there were no new juries being selected so we didn't need to go.

This was the second time I had to go in...last time I was picked and sat on a jury. Both were local, not federal, thankfully. If I was picked this time, it would have been a criminal case about elderly abuse/theft by deception. Its a weird process here, as they select 40 people.....the lawyers review the questionnaire we completed and then eliminate 26 people that neither lawyers want...leaving 12 jurors and 2 alternates. It is more of a process of elimination than being "picked".

Must be a tough job to be a judge.

They need all the help they can get.
They get paid amply, the helpers don't.

I have a driver's license and I am registered to vote. But I do agree it's strange that there isn't a "better" system.

I do, but those medical issues wouldn't keep from serving I don't think. Except perhaps the restless leg. I would need to take medicine the day of and have a soda with me. I'm not sure how all that operates.

The only time I was called to jury duty, I was released after a ten minute questioning by the judge. No one else was questioned more than a couple of minutes. A week later, I was talking to one of the prosecutors who was also a city councilman, and he laughingly said that the whole building was talking about it!

As soon as I approach this year's $600 reporting threshold, I'm going to stop selling on eBay and delete all my listings. I'm bracing for a sizable tax bill this year due to my $18K take in 2024 and the suspense is killing me. I'm actually stalling going to H&R Block to do my taxes - something I never do. Instead of a decent refund, like I've gotten for decades, I'm going to have to pay THEM How are people able to sell thousands of items and not care that they have to pay taxes on the income? Am I worrying for nothing

If I get home and I've forgotten to get a 2-liter of soda while I was out, I'm going to be quite upset.

So my coworker and I are getting to know each other. We haven't gone out on a date yet but we're spending some time together after work. I think one of our supervisors at work has taken an interest in her. He is also Indian like her and like me, he has good taste in women lol I don't think he can tell that we're friendly like we are, but I am wondering how awkward it may be if he finds out and he does indeed have an interest in her.

Like Gretzky said..."You miss 100% of the shots you don't take"....you may need to push this "thing" the two of you have a little quicker....or you could miss out.

Finally paid off my daughter's bicycle. I could've paid it off a lot sooner but I took advantage of Trek's 0% financing program at the time of purchase. Sadly I don't think she even rides anymore, but what do I know since she's literally shut me out of her life. Her mom keeps telling me that she'll come around eventually but who knows, oh how much I've screwed up.
