Blu-rays are far more durable than DVDs, the only ones I've ever bought that didn't work perfectly were ones that came with terrible tight cardboard cases. Damaged standard cases or loose discs have never caused a problem.
It's more of a shelf space issue for me more than anything is why I'm heading more to digital, it's just that I'm saying that one of the drawbacks of a physical product is potential for physical damage and with digital you don't have to worry about buying a damaged item since there is nothing physical.

Yes, another good reason to abandon great A/V!

Replacement cases are only coppers anyway.

It's getting harder and harder finding blu-rays I'm looking for in stores because of lack of selection. I think everything I buy that is 4k will be a digital purchase whether it's directly from the digital provider or from a digital code purchase and I heard that the 5th Gen Apple TV that is coming up will have 4k support.
Use online? You will have multiple more choices to buy the Blu-Ray you desire.

You are right to walk away from Ultravile though. In my opinion, it's coming to a end. They can't continue the way they are going.

Well, folk have slaughtered me for years now, but the Evidence is there. Ultraviolet is not working IMO. It set out to be a universal sollution for everyone, it has (IMO) failed miserably. Very small growth in one country is not enough to keep it going beyond a couple of years. All I see in countries outside the U.S is storefronts constantly closing down. Some countries don't even have EST storefronts now, just a site to redeem copies. To be honest, Apple seem like a safer option to me.

What I find hilarious, is that some Digital fanboys don't want to pay more that 5-7 dollars for a digital copy but declare disc dead! . They actually believe Digital EST is going to be priced that cheap when (in a long long time from now) disc dies. Digital is so fantastic, no one wants to pay more than 7 dollars for a film! .

People are starting to see the light though.

It's better than sitting on the fence and letting the industry run all over you when they get full control or we end up with several walled gardens. I care deeply about home cinema and I think digital is detrimental to my love of the hobby, In more ways than one.

And you're only one that deeply cares about movies? Both formats do have their benefits regardless of how much *****ing and complaining both sides like to do. One thing digital is fantastic for is rentals. Rental stores are all but gone and Redbox is hardly ideal with their incredibly limited selection. One thing physical is great for is ownership. It all depends what you're looking for exactly. However people on neither side want to budge a single bit and see benefits from both.

Yes but I get the impression convenience is more important to the digital mob. Even if that means a mobile only future for film. That disgusts me to be honest.

Some people on here are not everyone. My parents use the digital on demand that Comcast offers. Many older people also use the digital movies that their cable provider offers. Sure you can call it convenience....I call it "where the hell else do I rent this from?". Seriously our means of renting a physical movie is almost completely gone. Your choices are Redbox (limited selection), small mom and pop shop (how many are left?), Or Netflix disc service which not everyone wants a monthly subscription for movies. Sometimes people just want to rent a movie...And in the current state of things digital is the best bet.

And I'm not even going to respond to your mobile only future malarkey. That's just something you're saying to get a rise out of people.

I'm watching Star Wars Rogue One on Vudu HDX. The convenience is real.

Absolutely not. I say it because I 100% believe it could happen given certain circumstances. It's not to get a rise at all.

Pity about the audio. Shame about the inferior video quality. Too many downsides.

What of the person doesn't have the means to properly use the audio and video? You're not under the assumption that everyone has surround sound and 1080p+ TV's are you? If so you are so sorely mistaken. Many many people only use the sound coming from their tv. There are also many people who do not upgrade a TV until the one they have dies. People still have 720p and early 1080p sets. TV's and sound that you'll notice zero difference between Rogue One from VUDU or Blu-ray. People on this site are not the average person. The average Joe does not care as much about PQ and AQ as you do....They never did. The home theater market is a niche for a reason.

Yep, I know that. However, I was replying to a post that was made on this forum/thread not some random black bar zoomer.

Yeah, I have a four year old 1080p 40" tv with a decent audio set up. But amazingly, I still enjoy the movie. It is all about the movie first just like I enjoyed watching movies on pan and scan VHS on a 19" tv in the 80s

The stars wars copies on Vudu are the worst HDX transfers I've seen on that service.they appear dark and faded compared to the blu rays
