Forgot to mention...for those interested...I was in B&N yesterday and my cashier friend from the CD and movie dept. told me about the June Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale, which will start June 7 and run until early July. Forgot the date she said it will end, but there you have it. Adjust your plans accordingly...

She is not sure yet about the July Criterion sale as they get their info a few weeks before the sales start, as the info is downloaded into their system.

If this is indeed true I hope they have printable coupons as well. 50% member and non-member coupons combined with this promotion plus my membership discount,

I could get three Criterions for $34 and change.

It means that while Ingmar Bergman was still alive he approved of Criterion's release (audio/visual quality/supplements, etc.). In this case, the "Director Approved" sticker, obviously, applies more-so to Criterion's original DVD release in 2004. However, since this was just a blu-ray upgrade of the existing DVD, as long as Criterion stays true to the original intentions when the DVD was created the same approval is being applied posthumously.

When these stickers are applied to the releases, it usually means the directors have been involved with the release in some form or fashion.

I recently watched "When a Woman..." What an excellent film.

I've seen Harakiri and Sansho (tremendous), but have held out on Ugetsu in the hopes of a blu-ray release.

I have just finished Kes, and coming from Nottingham, which is just down the road from Barnsley where the film is shot, it was quite bizarre to hear dialogue from the north of England in a Criterion Collection release.
Faultless presentation by the way, and Brian Glover is hilarious as the P.E. teacher.

They are all great. Do yourself a favor and see Ugetsu, it is phenomenal! Maybe NF has it available to stream...
