I only bring it up because there's still people in this thread, who either don't get the point, or simply aren't listening.

Bottom line is we should be thanking GL yes thanking GL for giving us the star wars saga and allowing the saga to continue with the clone wars cartoon series. Star Wars whould not be Star Wars without GL.

Which is a terrible attitude in just about every artistic endeavor known to man. Art is a method of communication, a definition and understanding going all the way back to Aristotle, who wrote there is no art without an audience to view it. If an artist is only talking to himself, then he isn't communicating to anyone, and therefore is not an artist. I don't know what you call people who create works of art purely for themselves - narcissists, maybe. Or mentally troubled. You don't call them artists.

Fan edits are not illegal. Selling or profiting from fan edits is illegal.

George Lucas actually supports Fan Edits. His company will of course get involved when people attempt to make money off them. He actually liked the Phantom Editor version of Episode I, and said something along the lines of this being the future of movies, where people can create their own versions/ films from existing films. He's very much against the studio system when it comes to films, and believes the future is in downloading. Interesting stuff.

This is incorrect, and perhaps the reason why so many think they are entitled to movies and music over the internet.

Copyright is not limited to selling. It includes copying and distribution - which is exactly what fan edits are doing.

Of course not. But the best versions of the original trilogy already existed in 1983. He didn't need to alter them (or any of the other movies he directed, for that matter) any further.

Guys, please check out my star wars music video. It's based on anakin's journey through the saga and is set to 'hero' by Skillet. Took a long time to make it.. Please check it out.

There will always be complaining, just a fact of life. Its not just limited to those who want the UOT either. Others will complain the extras are weak or 'such and such' of an extra was missing. Or PT fans will whine that the individual PT set isn't selling as well at the OT set. Blah blah blah. Whatever. I just look forward to seeing the movies in Blu Ray at home. Just gots my fingers crossed that the transfer is SWEET!

I agree. I can't wait for SW on BD. Life is too short too worry about all that other garbage.

While they helped, they didn't do as much as Lucas. Kurtz wasn't even around for JEDI and Kershner had nothing to do with NEW HOPE or JEDI. Williams did the iconic music, however it's an ingredient the success of SW: not the reason.

Kurtz had alot to do with reinging in Lucas. Not to get to far off track but IMHO Jedi was not in the class with the first two. Kershner directed the best film of the whole series when Lucas was nowhere to be found. In fact Lucas was not around much at all for Empire. So I would say he should get tons of credit. So I hope they will not be slighted in the potential extras.

I have multiple books and magazines about the making of EMPIRE. Lucas was there ALL THE TIME. All decisions went through him. All script changes, dailies, *everything*.

Yeah i have tons of stuff too and he was hardly on set in England until he freaked over the budget. But like I said thats a different argument for another thread. I just hope he gives them the credit they are due on ANH and Empire.

However, the difficulty of getting decent BDs of the UOT means that I'm curious as to whether he cares ENOUGH. Maybe if 3D doesn't take off much in the next few years (which I'm expecting and vaguely hoping) then perhaps, as BillieCassin says, it will be the prime opportunity for the UOT to get a release.
The reason he doesn't care because apart from "angry comments" on the forums nobody e-mails this directly to him. Send a petition..write on facebook..someone will notice. But if we just assume that he doesn't care then whats the point of naging about it...

You must be joking.

You think NO ONE has ever thought about that?

He's WELL aware.

If I hear 1 more person say GL doesn't care about the fans I am going to go mad. GL does care about the fans so stop saying he does not.
