That would be a dirty shot to DC.

Hope Gordon-Levitt gets the part. If WB/DC won't sign him to continue in their series of films, I think Marvel should definitely sign him for this. He's a hugely talented actor, and having him would help draw audiences into the films, no question. I really hope he lands the part.

JGL would be great for this, both for his great acting ability and his name being a draw (which this film may need, or at least it couldnt hurt).

It would be great to see JGL with the rest of the Avenger team...but, I think they're just throwing around names here. And like someone said, this would be a dirty shot at DC.

You mean, just like when Warner hired Reynolds to star as Green Lantern when he was already Deadpool, or when Marvel chose Chris Evans as Captain America when he was already the Human Torch?

Don't be ridiculous, JGL is just a hugely talented actor who has a ton of credibility in the main demo of the movie, and that was already the case before the TKDR gig.

This being said, I can see die hard Batman fans having a heart attack over this if it was to happen (but then again, they would have a heart attack over anything that might "stain" the legacy of Nolan's Trilogy).

The difference is Deadpool wasn't moving anywhere and Fantastic Four was already in the plannings of a reboot.

Although I don't quite buy it, Warner might still be planning to tie JGL into their JL film. I still think they'll go back to drawing board and do Batman again, but it would be far more economical just to use the films they have and it would boost profits with the ties to the Nolan films. The hiring of JGL for Marvel isn't the fact of "betrayal, DC owns him" but more what's his schedule going to look like with this and the JL involved.

i really dont think theres any chance of him being Batman in future films and the only reason that rumor is still around is because nolanites cant let the franchise go, which is lame because i think the fact that it is only suggested in the film is great. it played into the whole "Batman could be anyone" conversation the two have earlier in the film.

I think a better argument would have been when Warner signed away Director Bryan Singer prior to when X-MEN 3 was about to go into production.

I'd be happy for either of Jim Sturgess or Joel Edgerton. Both pretty under-rated and this could be the big break-out they deserve.

Can we stop trying to put JGL in every movie? He is a decent actor but he doesn't need to be in everything. He is starting to make the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game look bad.

At least he's not showing his bare ass in almost every movie like Bacon.

Alright... I have been doing my best to give this movie a shot... however what are the studios thinking? Why are they focusing on this rather then the 'known' projects out there.

I have no doubt that they can make anything into a good movie however as of this second I have zero interest and I would say I am a guy who likes a lot. That's gotta be bad...

I hope they get good actors however if the script isn't good, it wont work. This is no Avengers.

The script will be good, they wouldn't be pushing an unknown property around like this unless they KNEW it was going to be good.

Exactly what Fogs said. Marvel knows they had something here, so they're pushing it because they think they can get it to connect with audiences. It's about finding the right people to be involved to sell the project, and that's what they're doing. Done correctly, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' could be an excellent film that people will absolutely fall in love with. People forget that before 'Iron Man' came out in 2008, that many didn't really know about him either, outside of comic book fans, and same goes for 'Thor' as well. But be damned, Marvel pushed ahead and turned out excellent films with both characters, that audiences loved. Marvel doesn't make half assed decisions, they're very careful with the way they build their films and universe, so they wouldn't push something that didn't think would work. That's part of the reason characters like WarMachine weren't shoehorned into 'The Avengers', because they didn't want to force something in that shouldn't be there.

The Guardians play a huge part in the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe, something the MCU films have been building to,and it's a good way to introduce Thanos to people, making him a central antagonist in that film, and setting him up for 'The Avengers 2'. This has the chance to be a fun, space opera style film with superheros. It would be different than the usual superhero films, while still feeling like something you can connect to. It should be great. We don't need to hope that everything is going to be 'The Avengers' now. It just has to be good enough to stand on its own two feet and shine in a different way. For once, we'll get a comic book film that's different than normal, which I thought people wanted, but now that we're moving towards one, people seem to really hesitant to embrace it. Just kinda funny to me.

It looks like Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville's Lex Luthor) has indicated via his twitter account that he has also read for the Lead role as well. He does have comic ties as the voice of The Flash for the Justice League TV shows.

Well, we don't know that--
They seemed kind of FORCED into it, since they didn't know what other property they owned they could plug Thanos with for the Avengers sequel (most of their other space titles, like FF, were still tied up at Fox), and they only picked Gunn because of The Last Movie They Remembered He Made.

You're giving them an awful, awful lot of wishful-thinking credit for "thinking out" what could've just been an accident, and very likely end up as one.
And we already have FF and Green Lantern as examples that studios going "funny" with a superhero project is the first sign of surrender.
