Eldest and youngest Best Actress noms in the same year. That's pretty cool.

No Bigelow, no Affleck, no Hooper for Director. Start dusting the mantle, Mr. Spielberg.

Nice to see the actors from The Master all get nominated, I was thinking Phoenix wouldn't get nominated for what he said about the award show couple of months ago.

Also, a nine year old being nominated for best actress

I'm really surprised by the Best Original Song nominees. Bon Jovi's song was the only one of those I saw as a possibly for a nom, and I figured Skyfall and Suddenly from Les Mis would certainly get noms.

Chasing Ice (2012): J. Ralph("Before My Time")
Life of Pi (2012): Mychael Danna, Bombay Jayshree("Pi's Lullaby")
Paul Williams Still Alive (2011): Paul Williams("Still Alive")
Stand Up Guys (2012): Jon Bon Jovi("Not Running Anymore")
Ted (2012): Walter Murphy, Seth MacFarlane("Everybody Needs a Best Friend")

Edit: Apparently IMDB listed the wrong songs initially. The nominees from Chasing Ice, Life of Pie, and Ted are correct but Skyfall and Suddenly were nominated and Still Alive and Not Running Anymore were not.

I can't believe Affleck, Bigelow, Tarantino, and Hooper all didn't get best director nominees!

And I'm sad that The Perks of Wallflower got nothing, not even adapted screenplay.

With that said, I really hope Lincoln doesn't win best picture, it's definitely my least favorite of the 6 nominated films that I've seen.

Wow, a lot of love for Silver Linings and beasts of the southern wild.

I hadn't seen any mention of De Niro even sniffing a nomination.

I was hoping for DiCaprio over Arkin. Arkin was doing his thing. Nothing new. Just a funny role he can do in his sleep.

I was really hoping for Richard Gere in Arbitrage over Jackman or Cooper.

No Dark Knight Rises, even in the technical categories? Shame.

I think it's a question of math. Although up to 10 films can be nominated, members only nominate up to 5 (or less) so Moonrise had to be in the top 5 films for the majority of voters. Looks like Amour and Beasts edged it out.

Yeah, Beasts was a surprise. I think this is the only time it got this much nominations. Odd.

Also, who's gonna go start the thread for the predictions game?

Yes, I laughed at those too! Here's hoping he'll be an entertaining host this year.

Ugh, I was hoping was something unpredictable this year, but with the way the nominations are headed, Lincoln is most likely gonna way this.

Strong showing of Silver Linings Playbook was a surprise, for me, as I continued to hear how this wasn't Harvey's year and his legendary Oscar campaigning wasn't gaining traction. Then, voila - nine zillion nominations. Weinstein is amazing when it comes to Oscar promotion.

Disagree. Finally got around to watching it last night. I kept thinking "I hope this turd doesn't get nominated tomorrow". I was hoping a foreign film would sneak in, like Chico & Rita and A Cat in Paris did last year.

Riva deserves to win the award out of all of them. She was amazing. She was snubbed though in some which leads me to believe she's not gonna win it.
