Let's hope Shia Labeouf is kept far far away from these new movies.

Disney apparently acquired all the technology as well

Quote:
Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Lucasfilm, a leader in entertainment, innovation and technology, including its massively popular and “evergreen” Star Wars franchise and its operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production. Disney will also acquire the substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies that have kept audiences enthralled for many years. Lucasfilm, headquartered in San Francisco, operates under the names Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, and the present intent is for Lucasfilm employees to remain in their current locations.
Also means they probably got THX as well

So you would be upset if they announced Shia Lebeouf was going to Direct, Write, and Star in Episode 7?

My real question is what are these next three films going to focus on? An older Luke Skywalker? A completely new cast? Will C-3PO and R2-D2 be part of it? It seems to me that whatever they do, it's got to allow for future installments as well. Disney wont be happy with only three new Star Wars films.
I think it's obvious...just imagine Luke as a Dumbledore figure, while the series focuses on a new young jedi. Luke, Han, and Leia will have cameos, but will not be central characters.

You said it. Di$ney will milk this series WAY more than Luca$ ever has.

Not sure how I feel about this.

I mean...there's is massive potential to make some AWESOME Star Wars films but I sincerely hope they choose directors and actors wisely and I also hope they leave the original characters alone.

....and no Michael Bay, please

With the SW:EU there are a lot of ways they could go.

Personally I hope they do the Thrawn Trilogy; and then should they want to make more films (and most likely they will) have them jump back to the Old Republic Era. There are some great 'Tales of the Jedi' stories that could make for some nice movies.

Guys, look at the bright side of this jawdropping announcement; there is a plethora of quality official sequel novels to source from for the new trilogy, be it Tim Zahn's Thrawn trilogy, Kevin Anderson's Dark Apprentice trilogy or even the Tom Veitch Dark Empire 1 and 2 graphic novels.

Plus Lucas wasn't even a half-decent writer as the prequels proved. He had to get British playright Tom Stoppard to polish the dailogue for Revenge Of The Sith!

The downside is that Disney is going to absolutely market the crap out of every single Star Wars thing bigtime. Nothing is going to be safe for them to make a return on thier investment. Jar-Jar appearing on Sesame Street anyone?

I like that scenario. A new bad @$$ villain would be great. No more Darth Vader, Jaba, Emperor. Fresh start requires new avenues.

Why not? Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, and R2-D2 all appeared on Sesame Street. And the Muppet Show.

Just got back from Disneyland and I am not surprised Disney went after Lucasfilm. Other then their own main attractions and merchandise it's Indiana Jones and Star Wars they sell as well. I am wondering if this was to happen years ago or once Uncle George decided to wrap up the Trilogy only time would tell. Like Whelk said Disney is going to market the crap out of this. Go out and buy your Star Wars blu-rays before they hit the vault!
